The DS214se's performance peaked at almost 73.5 MB/s average speed with two clients, but the weak CPU struggled to keep up with more clients. Average transfer speed declined to 65.5 MB/s with five clients. Not a significant drop, the following screenshots also show that CPU utilization with five clients hit 100%, which will slow the responsiveness of any services running in the background down to a crawl. Yet this is a home NAS, so it will probably never be tasked with feeding huge volumes of data to five clients at the same time.
While CPU utilization with five clients was at a constant 100%, RAM utilization was pretty low. Although we were initially very skeptical about the amount of RAM, the DS214se never utilized 256 MB in our tests, which is clearly due to DSM 5.0's excellent memory management capabilities.
