Audio Station
Audio Station is a web-based audio application. It gives you access to Internet radio or the music on your NAS, and allows you to play music over your computer and iOS/Android device. Audio Station also supports streaming to Bluetooth and AirPlay devices. Its embedded music player even supports the creation of a personal library for individual accounts.
Here is an article by Synology. It will will take you through Audio Station's essentials.
Video Station
Synology states Video Station to be an ideal organizer for your movie collections, TV Shows, home videos, and various TV recordings. Use Video Station to watch videos on your PC, DLNA, or AirPlay devices, and iOS/Android/Windows smartphones and tablets. You can even create custom libraries if its default libraries don't cover your needs, and you can assign them access permissions. You also have the ability to live stream and record digital TV programs by using a suitable USB DTV dongle.
We tried various file types with Video Station and found it to be incompatible with many multimedia file types, including M2TS, various AVIs we downloaded, and MP4 files. Playback with very high bit-rate files (MKV with >20 Mbps) also wasn't smooth, especially in "heavy-duty" scenes. If you want to learn more about the DS414slim's transcoding capabilities, you had better take a look at
this article.
We also included a few screenshots of the system resources page while we ran a high bit-rate sample of Transformers over Video Station. You will notice a few CPU-utilization spikes which, however, didn't affect playback.
Photo Station
You will find Photo Station in Synology's Package Center.
Photo Station is an online photo album with an integrated blog. It makes sharing photos and videos over the Internet a breeze. The package also offers support for all popular social networking sites, and you can browse through photos on your NAS with a major browser or mobile device.
Photo Station supports all popular image formats and most video formats.
You can add tags to your photos.
Photo Station allows you to easily create a personal blog with your photographs.
When you upload photos or videos for use with Photo Station or Media Server, thumbnails will be created for a better browsing experience. You can set the thumbnail quality and monitor how far along a conversion is, although such a conversion can take a while since the CPU isn't that strong. Running a conversion while other services are taking place will also reduce the responsiveness of those services.
Cloud Station
Cloud Station allows you to easily synchronize your files across multiple systems. Files will then be locally available via the web and Cloud Station folders. The maximum file size for synchronized files is 10 GB, and there is also a mobile application, DS cloud, to synchronize files with mobile devices.
Download Station
Download Station is a web-based download application. It allows you to download files via BT, FTP, HTTP, NZB, and eMule, without the need of a client PC. The files are directly put into a specified NAS folder.
You can use Download Station to download files off various file-hosting sites. You may also search for torrent files through the system's default search engines, or those you add through the BT search function.
File Station
File Station gives DSM users access to shared NAS folders over the Internet. Running two or more File Stations at the same time also allows you to manage all DiskStation data by dragging and dropping between different File Stations.
File Station provides you with tons of options.
