Value and Conclusion

  • Good build quality with clean aesthetics
  • Included cable overkill at this price point
  • Deliberate, treble-first tuning that doesn't hide
  • Works well with some specific genres catering to the Japanese market
  • Three sets of multiple sizes of silicone and memory foam ear tips included
  • Very comfortable to wear for long periods of time
  • Excellent consistency between the two channels
  • Extremely divisive tuning that can come off shrill and distorting with many popular music genres
  • Technical performance is lacking even outside of the tuning
  • Foam tips help tame the treble, but only one set is included in the box
  • Cable ear hooks are quite stiff and hard to re-shape
Unlike when I reviewed TinHiFi T5, I am aware enough of the target market for the company's more recent IEMs this time around. I also appreciate that within the T2 series, there are multiple differently tuned and designed SKUs to cater to different markets. If I only really liked treble-heavy music genres, I would be gushing over the T2 Evo. But even as someone who listens to a lot of classical music, there are faults with the tuning to where instruments don't have enough range to shine. It's a smooth single peak that encompasses a broad frequency range, so not only is it in some cases shrill (think soprano), but many instrument resonances mix in with the fundamentals of others.

This is a set that is extremely specific in what it wants to do, which you should be aware of. It achieves the $50 pricing by simplifying production for scalability with the machined aluminium. It does work out well, making for an industrial design that is clean, small, and lightweight, which means it is extremely comfortable to wear. Somehow, TinHiFi also manages to throw in a cable I can see selling for $50 or more under another brand, so in those regards, it does seem like a bargain. It just happens to be quite divisive with the tuning, and I am happy for those who like how it jives. I just want TinHiFi to be more specific about it, and having a single product page for all T2 variants is certainly not the way to go about it.
