Tronsmart Mobile App (iOS, Android)

The Tronsmart Bang can be configured and updated through the Tronsmart mobile app. Its interface is easy to understand, but there are some quirks to be aware of. For one, the app doesn't automatically connect to the speaker, so you have to expand the hamburger menu every time you start it and look for the Tronsmart Bang under the "My Devices" list. The app then looks for the speaker for a couple of seconds and finally connects to it even though the phone is already connected to the speaker and playing music.


The main menu shows a picture of the speaker and current battery status. A percentile value of the remaining battery capacity would be helpful but isn't implemented. Tapping the three dots in the upper-right corner opens the firmware update screen. You can also disconnect from the speaker and access the user manual here.


The Equalizer menu consists of eight sound profiles (equalizer settings): Default, Sound Pulse, Deep Bass, 3D, Hi-Fi, Classical, Vocal, and Rock. They change the sound performance of the speaker a lot, which is why you'll want to spend some time in this menu to find your favorite profile. The profiles can be changed on the fly while the music plays, making the sound profile comparison fast and easy. My favorite sound profile is Deep Bass because it addresses an area where the Tronsmart Bang is lacking in its default form, but your mileage may vary. The speaker always goes back to the Default profile when it's turned on, so do keep in mind that you'll have to visit this menu often should you want to use a profile other than Default or Sound Pulse (a dedicated button on the speaker can activate the latter). This is an obvious annoyance, and it's only made worse by having to manually connect to the speaker every time you open the app.


The Controller section of the app is where you can select inputs, activate Broadcast Master+ mode to pair with other Bang units at your disposal, select the lighting effects and colors, or turn them off, and power off the speaker.
