The Micron 4600 is a solid-state drive in the M.2 2280 form factor, launched on February 18th, 2025. It is available in capacities ranging from 512 GB to 4 TB. This page reports specifications for the 2 TB variant. With the rest of the system, the Micron 4600 interfaces using a PCI-Express 5.0 x4 connection. The SSD controller is the SM2508 from Silicon Motion, a DRAM cache chip is available. Micron has installed 276-layer TLC NAND flash on the 4600, the flash chips are made by Micron. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are absorbed more quickly. The cache is sized at 385 GB, once it is full, writes complete at 3944 MB/s. Copying data out of the SLC cache (folding) completes at 1800 MB/s. Thanks to support for the fast PCI-Express 5.0 interface, performance is excellent. The 4600 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 14,500 MB/s and 12,000 MB/s write; random IO reaches 2100K IOPS for read and 2100K for writes.
The SSD's price at launch is unknown. The warranty length is set to three years, which is above average, but shorter than the five years offered by many other vendors. Micron guarantees an endurance rating of 1200 TBW, a good value.
