The Micron 4600 is a solid-state drive in the M.2 2280 form factor, launched on February 18th, 2025. It is available in capacities ranging from 512 GB to 4 TB. This page reports specifications for the 512 GB variant. With the rest of the system, the Micron 4600 interfaces using a PCI-Express 5.0 x4 connection. The SSD controller is the SM2508 from Silicon Motion, a DRAM cache chip is available. Micron has installed 276-layer TLC NAND flash on the 4600, the flash chips are made by Micron. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are handled more quickly. Thanks to support for the fast PCI-Express 5.0 interface, performance is excellent. The 4600 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 10,300 MB/s and 5,780 MB/s write; random IO reaches 800K IOPS for read and 1200K for writes.
The SSD's price at launch is unknown. The warranty length is set to three years, which is above average, but shorter than the five years offered by many other vendors. Micron guarantees an endurance rating of 300 TBW, a good value.
