DFI Announces P45-ION-T2A2 Hybrid Motherboard Availability

Due to the serious issue of global warming, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, saving energy has become the responsibility of every global citizen. DFI is committed to developing energy saving products, not only to provide consumers a better platform, but also to do the best for the earth. Therefore, Hybrid platform was invented. Besides saving plenty of energy, Hybrid platform also brings consumers the benefits of time saving, space saving, and money saving. In addition, it is simple to use. Via a control panel, two systems can be easily switched and using condition can be known.

Hybrid platform, adopts the latest DFI patent technology. That is, a board combines a powerful platform of the current mainstream (P45 + ICH10R) and a green platform (NVIDIA ION). In other words, Hybrid has two platforms which operate completely independently. What is more, files can be shared between platforms. Through integrated hardware switch chips as well as network switch chips, Hybrid platform features a KVM and LAN switch on board. So Hybrid platform can be used with a monitor and keyboard/mouse, or with two sets of devices to work separately. This product will bring you the following four benefits.
First, energy saving. More and more users need to turn on their computer for a long time; however at the same time they worry about high consumption of energy. While general energy-saving system can not satisfy users in terms of performance, DFI launches Hybrid platform to solve this problem. This platform can be turned on for 24 hours and will not result in high electric bills, but also renders high performance to meet users' requirements. According to test, more than 65% of energy can be saved by using Hybrid platform. Therefore, while you use Hybrid platform to save electricity, energy is less consumed and carbon dioxide is less emitted.

Second, money saving. Hybrid platform not only help you lower your electrical bills, but also save money from purchasing hardware. Do you have second computer needs? However, in order to own two computers, you need to purchase second set of related equipments. Hybrid platform is equipped with integrated hardware switch and LAN switch. With Hybrid platform, one set of devices can be used for both systems, and therefore the total cost of ownership will be decreased.

Third, space saving. Hybrid can help you save a lot of space. With built-in hardware switch chips and network switch chips, what you need is a monitor and keyboard/mouse to use Hybrid platform. And it will only take up space for one computer. Living in such limited space, you can utilize space well and obtain better living quality.

Fourth, time saving. Owing to Hybrid's multi-tasking, you do not have to wait anymore. Most consumers or professionals, such as ID designers, photographers, architects, and engineers, etc., have unpleasant waiting experience while processing some heavy loading jobs with their computers. Hybrid platform allows you to do a lot of things with your computer just by switching to the other platform without waiting.

While environmental consciousness is highly raised and people pay more attention to their living quality, the unique features of Hybrid dual independent platform will bring consumers better value and the most amazing using experience.

I smell very useful for those that can afford it : ]

Look at the size of heatsinks XD I swear the prototype one I saw didn't have such huge heatsinks.

Interesting, I'm sure once this idea has been around long enough and prices drop, it could work very nicely.

I'm actually very excited about this idea! I plan on getting 2 or 3. They are pricey, but the convenience, is worth the price for me. I have plans for a good lan box with one of these, as well as to upgrade my / replace my download box. Also this would be good for my parents, as they tend to end my old machines, and they share 1 box, this would be perfect for them.

You have a lot of money, especially to throw at a dead socket :O

This is truely innovative but I must ask why the decision to stay with 775? I would LOVE to see a P55 & ION platform.

I'm glad to see new innovations rather than rebranding and competitive marketing ploys as a 'standard' for some 'development'.

Does one need X58, NF200, or P55, for downloading, encoding audio, and video, for iPod's and ZUNE, and phones? No, is a Q9650/ E8400 perfectly capable with a GTX 285/ GTX 260, of playing any game on the market at max settings @ 1680 x 1050 @ 16:9 ( sorry I'm just not willing to drag a 27 + inch monitor to a lan party! ), why yes it is. I invested into 2 such systems, and this would be a nice addition to my lan box, as I can bring 1 less box, I can have my gaming box and server in 1 box. And save me money on my downlaod box, as I don't need to have a E8400 to run uTorrent, but I do encode stuff for ZUNE, and iPOD, so having the power of an E8400 is a something I need for that. I do own a very nice X58 system, but I just don't need that much power for downloading, and encoding music and movies ect . This meets my needs for a lan box and download box, and more than meets my parents needs for a box that can satisfy my father the audiophile, and my mother the flash games guru, and avid you tuber.

Now all that said, do I wish this was a P55 platform, absolutely I do. But it's not a deal breaker for me. Would I build a primary @ home, water cooled rig with this board,? um no I wouldn't, but for what I want / need this is very appealing to me.

Also, someone has to adopt the technology early, otherwise, there may not be a P55/ X58 version. :slap:

agree. it also much more convenient as i5 dual cores and i3 dual cores will be more power efficient without mention that p55 is only one chip that uses 4 W.

I agree with you completely. If price was like say ~$150-$200 i could see this being a nice choice for people that leave there rigs on 24/7 for things like DLs and servers.(don't see this helping save power for crunchers/folders)

They have posted this here before. It is still cool. I like the concept of having two computers in would box. I would go as high as $250 since the second ION processor comes with it. I also hope the secondary system is upgradeable.

The only upgradable part would be the ram. ALL of the atom processors come soldered to the board. This is also true with ion, both the Ion chip, the atom chip are soldered to the board.

Not really for me...

Would love a P55+P55 setup for a multi-user setup, in case you're listening DFI :)
