Nintendo Revolution gets a name - Wii

Yes you read right, the next generation console from Nintendo will be called "Wii", which sounds like the word we. That in turn means that this is the console for everyone. I personally liked Revolution much better.

Isn't the name irrelevant? I think ill buy it, because no other console can beat a game like super smash bros melee.

Well from what i read they decided on using Wii for a few plausable reasons.

Wii pronounced We, as in a inclusive collective body, me you, you, you and you.
Not We as in WEEEE im having fun. Wii stands for that whole worldwide inclusion of players that nintendo is really pushing for.

The two lowercase "i"'s are going to be used as visual referencing to people (the dot being the head), as well as the general shape of the controller. this will be used in commercials. itll be possible to fade from person to controller to logo without changing shape too rapidly.

Wii can easily be pronounced in any language, with any accent.

many people have exclaimed their disliking of the new name. VP of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, states "Live with it, sleep with it, eat with it, move along with it and hopefully they'll arrive at the same place."

"If this is a console for everyone, why do so many hardcore gamers feel left out? I personally dont feel like i am included when i am given a name that i utterly hate and see Perrin Kaplan say "live with it". That doesnt make me feel like i am included. It makes me feel like my opinion doesnt matter...... So i have changed the name in my mind. It is no longer the "Wii". It is not the "THei" pronounced "they"...." -member of the IGN Wii dissaprove forums.
