Gigabyte Closes ASUS' Motherboard Shipment Lead, Could Trigger Price War

According to industry sources, motherboard major Gigabyte is closing the gap between it and ASUS in terms of motherboard shipments, so much so, that the two industry giants could entangle in a price-war. Gigabyte's shipments are estimated by market observers to have reached 3.1 to 3.3 million in the first two months of 2010, while that of ASUS for the same period were estimated to be 3.2 to 3.3 million.

To maintain its vulnerable lead, ASUS may shortly cut prices across the board and that could trigger a price-war in the motherboard industry, say sources in channel vendors. ASUS is currently planning to reshuffle some of its staff in the motherboard business unit. While ASUS refused to comment in this issue, Gigabyte said that the estimates concerning it are very close to the company's internal figures.

Everytime you think Asus is better than GB.
he ill eat a kitten

No but, seriously, since the p35 chipset was out, all i recommend to my friends is GB and evga.
BTW GB has much more features on lower end bords than evga, so the brownie points goes to GB.

I'd say MSI/Foxconn is behind Gigabyte and ASUS.

btarunrAgreed, but there's no UD6/UD7 boards by Gigabyte based on 890FX. The new top model is

GA-890FXA-UD5

You could hurt Chuck Norris with that thing.
Yet. im certain there will be a 6 and 7 just cause they haven't shown doesn't mean they wont make it. UD5 will not be there top model. If this company knows the market like we know they know they will make it (native watrloop and all). AMD owners are no more or less "extreme" And with the 890GX chipset already reviewed and overclocked on air easily at 4.2 GHZ (965PhenomII) even this should be a monster.

agreed they are both a strong 3rd MSI has the GD series (the most recent) are dead on hits.... but they've had some really bad misses too and are not as consistent as ASUS or GB (yes even with RMA asus stories lol)
