ATI Rolls out Catalyst 10.8b Hotfix for Radeon HD 4870 X2 and HD 4850 X2 Accelerators
AMD released an untimely Catalyst 10.8b Hotfix driver specifically targeted at users of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 and HD 4850 X2 graphics cards on Windows 7 and Windows Vista. The new driver claims to improve multi-GPU performance scaling, and improves image-quality in Tom Clancy H.A.W.X. 2 by forcing anisotropic filtering from ATI Catalyst Control Center.

i thought id be stuck on ccc 10.2 for another year.
will download 10.8 + this hot fix and test.
lets get some results!
Performance gain in Crysis by 3FPS, and a big improvement in AVP 2010.
When they say it helps to scale between the cores there not joking, was VERY surprised to see the difference.
All games seem to run fine, and nothing to report back here as bad, all good realy :)
Once again just shocked to see both my cores on the 4870X2 jump up so much in games now :O
I will install it after work and hope there is some improvements.
3d mark vantage has ridiculous amounts of artifacts
fur benchmark just crashes
...and back to 10.2
I use the HD4870x2 from Sapphire.
I have had no problems installing or using the Catalyst releases as others here stated.
THe main thing is even if it works there is a strong possibility that any drivers after 10.5 our HD4870x2 are only using 1GPU when running 3d Apps. You just don't notice because one 4870 core is just still that bad ass. You must luanch 2 GPUz programs from TPU made byTPU and be sure in the bottom where it asks to select card you have one for 1 GPU and then scroll down to the second 4870x2 in the 2 GPU list to have the other GPU in its own GPUz window. You will know they are different because of slight voltage differences, but mainly temperature differences.
To test both GPUs are working in a 3D game launch the 2 GPUz configured as stated leave them on while you play the game. Exit the game and compare the two windows. if both have the clock speeds for GPU and memory at 850 and 900 MHz both were working, and you will notice a hell of a performance increase. Alot of games were not using both GPUs even if the cards were working and running games. Also alot were having the problem where the 2nd GPU did not revert to 2D speeds when games were exited. You would have to launch a game that reverted them and exit to get them back to 2D mode.
The 10.9a are the most sucessful Hotfix for 4870x2 I have tested. Almost all games (all I have tested, all CODs, SC2, Dragon Age, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, HAWX, Far Cry 2) use both GPUs Crysis doesn't revert to 2D (I just run a quick 3D Screen Saver to fix it back to 2d clocks. -Koi Pond) That is the reason for this hotfix an improvement from the 10.8b version. It works even better. 10.9a is meant to give the HD4870x2 the dual GPU power we payed for and when it is 100% working it is Very powerful and still matches the 5800 series singles well and surpases them in some areas of performance.
I want to use 10.10 with the open CL included APP driver, but I do not want to potentially lose the benefits of the 10.9a hotfix. Anyone try the 10.10 app and have HD4870x2 work with BOTH GPUS in 3D apps?
I use a widget on the desktop that tells me fan speeds, voltages, clock speeds and GPU usage to see how the card reacts in games now with the hotfix, and i can tell you it made a difference. Seeing both cores jump up like that in most games was awesome.
The 4870X2 has never ran so good :)
