PhotoFast Also Readies GMonster PowerDrive-LSI PCI-E SSD

PhotoFast is working on yet another monster SSD, this time one that uses the PCI-Express x8 interface (fits inside x16 slots), the GMonster PowerDrive-LSI. As the name suggests, some of the drive's chippery (such as storage controller) is made by LSI, which runs an internal (abstract to OS) RAID a number of SSD modules. If 2 GT/s interface was any indication of the drive's speeds, then here goes: 1,400 MB/s read; 1,500 MB/s write. The controller has its own 512 MB of dedicated DDR2 memory. The GMonster PowerDrive-LSI comes in capacities of 240 GB, 480 GB, and 960 GB. It has a rated MTBF of 1.5 million hours. It is slated for next month. Once again, PhotoFast did not give out pricing.

I've never heard of "photofast" brand, while it sounds nice, and even looks nice, I wouldn't even know where to purchase one, also not sure I even would.

You couldn't afford one, these things will be hella expensive and aimed at corporate not the home user, besides its no good as you can't boot from pcie anyway :toast:
~The_Dude~Ugly to say the least.
Who cares, have you seen the speeds

I know the ocz revodrive is possible to use as a boot drive and i assume the new revodrive x2 is as well

"the RevoDrive X2 - The PCIe x4 add-in card boasts eye-watering speeds of over 730MB/s for both read and write, which is more than 35 per cent quicker than its predecessor.

It also manages 120,000 4k random write IOPS, which OCZ is corroborating by running IOMeter at IDF showing over 107,000 IOPS."

Bleh who cares about looks if those speeds are any indication its ridiculous how low boot times and stuff would be, if it is indeed bootable.

 Now that is fast! :rockout: I would pull one of my 5850's for this drive!

EDIT: Does it support trim? For the price it's going to be it shouldn't need trim.

mmm, a 2xSSD raid for your OS and then this for all your applications/games would be insane in a high end rig, no wait times ftw.

can't wait for this kind of tech to get cheaper, I'm still holding off on my first SSD purchase, I'm thinkin late next year when the two new CPU architectures are in full swing.

I think this is the way to go.

It doesnt look that bad giving the fact it will be in a PCI-E slot and you wont see the side of it and theres no wires coming off it or the mobo.

Once these are 200 bucks for 500gb... bye bye hardrives bye bye hardrive bays hello all this new space in my computer case and KICK ASS SPEEDS!!:rockout:

A controller made by LSI? It's going to be bootable, I bet my internets on it!

I am not sure what your talking about it would look great underneath my Crossfire cards.
Red matches the cards and my mobo.

It looks as sleek as it is fast.

For all those curious where to get one of these, we actually purchase a Photofast Gmonster Powerdrive 960GB card from an irish website for €2,774.00

I think the smallest version was 240GB for €1,206.84

Nevertheless the speeds are impressive... close to 1400 MB/s read as promissed... think we benchmarked 1223 MB/s.

I think the site was called SSD Europe or something...

Cheers,
