Scythe Chouriki 2 650W PSU Models Sold Only as 80 PLUS Silver Certified

Scythe officially announced that the Chouriki 2 650 Watt Power Supply Units is being sold only as 80PLUS Silver, although it was announced as 80PLUS Gold rated. After verifying a dozen more of the production samples, the efficiency rate was not sufficient enough for Scythe standards which lead to repealing of the earlier statement and offering it as 80PLUS Silver like the other models of the Chouriki 2 PSU Series.

Effective immediately, all Chouriki 2 650 Watt PSU are sold as 80PLUS Silver Models. Although the official 80PLUS website is listing the 650W model as Gold certified, Scythe is kindly asking to consider the PSU being a Silver certified model due to scattering in production. The official report can be found here (PDF).

Don't worry, it will still be "80PLUS Gold" all over the world but in the USA and Japan.

maybe they should of made the power supply a brushed gold color... then it would of gotten 80 plus gold hands down

Nice to see this kind of integrity. I'm going to start using more Scythe products in my builds.

Where did you get that from? there is no mention of price and I think if they wanted to deceive anyone they would have continued selling them as gold but decided not to as not all of them met the standard and they were good enough to come clean about it.

Makes me feel better about purchasing $20 case fans from them.
Maybe one day some other big manufactures will take the hint that good customer service go's a long way.

Go Scythe! :toast:

I have a couple CPU coolers from them and apart from being a bitch to mount (high tension on the retention clip. Actually better for cooling but inconvenient) are of EXTREMELY high build quality and function exactly as specified; as one would expect of japanese quality.

Good to see they're as quality oriented on all their products, and honest about it too.

i love honest manufacturers :toast:

i think corsair did something similar with their HX750 and HX850 as well, labeling them to be silver when they are given gold

I would say it's less about integrity and honesty than it is about saving themselves the embarrassment. Units are bound to be tested rigorously by reviewers and if I were Scythe I would rather have a highly rated 80 PLUS Silver PSU than a subpar 80 PLUS Gold PSU.
