Looks like it has the same TDP as a 55nm 9800 GT (105w). Wonder how well the cooler works (although I like dual slot coolers better).

I'd like it better with the fan on the other end of the card with the hot air being blown into the PCI covers- at least that way you can have a vented slot and get the hot air out the case instead of shooting it forward.

If it is all copper underneath that shroud then temps shouldn't be too bad, the fan does look a little small still.

Ya, i've never understood this kind of design, why put the fan there if it's just going to be blowing the hot air back into the case?

Maybe it could be because they don't produce a lot of heat anyways i'm guessing.

My only guess is that maybe its a reference board, and since you need to have one end of the HS closed off to have a somewhat effective blower solution they have to put it on the side of the card pictured. Like I said, just a guess from the pics.

Yea i am looking over a few reviews now. Seems like overall and features, the 450 is just a better video card. Might as well pick one up , but make sure i get one that has a core clock of 900 something or in the high 800s. Just trying to find a mid range card to replace my 9800GT for my dual core. A 450 would be the best choice. Because i plan to replace my GTS 250 with a 6850.

Nice product but... Probably its gonna be loud like the old 7900GT 1-slot cards. As someone said before, better passive than single slot :)

i still prefer double slot, than pick a noisy and 20 degress hotter-card like this one. except if i looking for htpc which i can find another card with cheaper solution..

From the looks of it, if the fan stops working its seems like it would cause a nuclear meltdown.
I like how it only takes up one slot but with graphics cards these days generating so much heat you really need them to exhale heat by themselves. Otherwise you will need to add more fans to move air out of your system.

I always heat when the go with a single slot, and put the fan at the wrong end of the card...

Put it at the other end damn it! Then it goes with the airflow of most cases. Then if you put it in an mini-ITX case with a single slot, if there is a little vent the hot air gets exhausted out that little vent.

I have heard these type of coolers are very noisy, but i cannot confirm it!
Nice looking card btw

For everyone bitching about fan placement, etc. there is no excuse for poor case airflow. Place your fans in the right spot with enough air movement and then no more problems. I tend to dislike the stupid dual slot coolers that blow the air out the back since you will always have the centrifruge style fan that has to spin stupid fast for any type of decent air movement. I'd rather have an AC Accelero or whatever with quieter fans and a bad ass rear 120x38mm fan in the rear of the case.

Lastly, of course if the fan fails on this card it'll overheat. What do you expect to happen with the dual slot coolers??? The same exact thing.

And I do like how Galaxy is going for some non-standard designs. Even if the single slot design sucks at least the option is out there for someone who doesn't mind noise.

For one I think an 8800GT style cooler, with the fan at the other end, and exhaust along the video outputs/top of the card is a better solution than this, but grats nonetheless to sparkle for a single slot GTS450.

with a card like this, in terms of graphical horsepower and even power useage, I think they could easily make them pci-e 4x, and retain 90+% of the performance (hec a 5870 showed us it was able to deliver ~95% of it's 16x performance @ 4x). making them 4x but obviously still compatible with 16x slots, to me, makes the card more attractive as a seconary monitor/folding/physx/whatever card in your mobo's 4x slots, if there are any. Not to mention they need ever so slightly less PCB and copper connections :)

and lastly, I want AMD to attack the GTS450's pricepoint sooner rather than later, and get them to force Nvidia's hand on unlocking GF106's true potential, which I believe to be 25-50% faster than what we see now, at the same clockspeeds, given it can pick up another 50% memory bus and ROPS... this would be a GTX260/4870 killer in that trim IMO.

Looks like Galaxy's wacky projects are paying off finally, everyone is associating them w/ innovation :p

This one's made by Sparkle, bud.

I do have to say that despite the fan placement, it is a very nice looking card. I much prefer molded metal/plastic to stickers.

That has nothing to do with it, we aren't saying it won't work, we are saying it could work better.

There is no excuse for fan placement on the graphics card that causes worse airflow by going against the general airflow of the case. The placement of this fan does not effect the fact that the heat is generally still dumped in the case and needs to be exhausted, so insinuating that we are bitching because we have bad case airflow is foolish.

I would buy this, if the core clock was up to 900 or at least 800 something. Sparkle needs to release some OC cards.
I still might buy it tho, thats the perfect sizee for a 450, so depending on the price i guess. For a card like that, that size, it should cost about 129.

On the non-standardized coolers they can run fine without a fan. Additionally since its a occupies an additional slot it creates more surface area to dissipate heat without a fan.

I don't think there is a high end card out rught now that wouldn't overheat if the fan was stopped completely. Even the generally lower heat producing ATi cards are running at 85+°C with the fan running at a reasonable clip, stop the fan they will overheat.

And chances are the heatsink on this card will be made of copper instead of aluminum like the dual slot cards, which will cool the card a lot better.
