Intel to Start Shipping B3 Stepping Cougar Point Chipset from February 14

Intel seems to have fast-tracked its Cougar Point chipset flaw rectification. The silicon giant claims that it will be in a position to start shipping B3 stepping of Cougar Point chipsets (Intel P67, H67, etc,) from 14 February, to OEM partners. According to the latest PCN (product change notification), number 110456-00 dated 2/9/2011, Cougar Point B3 will carry the following changes/features:
  • Revision ID will change from 04h to 05h
  • BIOS Update (Revision 1.1.4 of the BIOS Specification Update and Reference Code)
  • B3 stepping package is pin compatible with B2 stepping package
  • Minor metal layer change from B2 to B3 improving lifetime wear out with no changes to functionality or design specifications
Of the above, the last bullet point affirms that the SATA 3 Gb/s port defect issue, which caused physical parts of the chipset to wear out abnormally fast, degrading performance, is resolved.

twilythAny news on this? Did a search here on 1155 and didn't see anything more recent.

I still haven't heard from Asus about RMA'ing my P8P67 Pro board which I registered with them a couple of weeks ago.

edit: 1155 chips are now on sale at newegg, so might the boards be following soon?
Wow, should see the boards within a week or so :toast:

That would be cool. I have about a week to build myself a new PC because mine just sold. I am not sure if I wanna go SB or not in all honesty, but it is kind of enticing to see if I might be able to time it right to have the option! I would like to try a 2500k/p67/ddr3 build for sure.

I'm tempted to call Asus and say WFT dude. I mean at least send a freakin' email out to people.

If I see the 1155 boards on the egg before I get RMA info from Asus, Iz gonna be pizzed.

Well, called Asus tech support. Sat on hold for half an hour but talked to a tech.

He said don't expect to get an RMA until April. Newegg and Tiger direct will be the first to get the revised boards and you're better off doing the recall through them.

I asked if they are likely to see boards before april and he wouldn't give me a definite answer but that's what I think he was implying. Too bad I bought my board about 2 days before the egg had them in stock so i had to go with another vendor. What i'll probably do is buy a new board when they come into newegg, rma my board in april and then turn around and sell the replacement - well, either that or build another SB cruncher. Hehehe.

And yes, I am a crazy cock sucker when it comes to crunching. :rockout: I need to find some kind of support group like AA or something. :shadedshu :o

I just noticed on the ASUS site while I was seeing if there were any updates for my P8P67 that they have a "P8P67 Rev 3.0" and it looks as though the rest of the 1155 line-up has a "Rev 3.0" as well. Nothing in the downloads but there are at least listed so hopefully they will be available soon. ;)

Tiger direct told me that the advanceRMA's would be directly through the manufacturers, but whether he knew what he was talking about is anyone's guess.

Just got an email from ASUS saying the replacement boards are ready.

I just sent an email to a Biostar rep I know, checking on replacements. I'd assume they can't be much behind Asus.

Edit: I'm told that they are getting the boards in and starting RMA's around 3/11. Faster than I thought.

Easy Rhinobunch of chips for sale now on newegg.
Yeah they've been there for a week or 2. I thought that was a sure sign that the boards would be following soon, but apparently not. It looks like the RMA's will get priority over new boards. We'll see.

They were there as of my Feb 17th post - see above.

edit - but i did a search on 1155, I didn't try to find them via the cpu section - maybe that was the difference?

After 3 days and 2 faxes, I finally got my cross-ship RMA number. Sometime this week the replacement board should ship out. Meantime, got an H67 board from the egg - which I should have gotten in the first place if I'd had a clue.
