AMD Catalyst 11.3 WHQL Software Suite Released

AMD released a timely update to its Catalyst software suite, the package that provides display drivers for AMD/ATI Radeon GPUs, AMD chipset video, APUs, HDMI audio, and related software. The AMD Catalyst 11.3 WHQL release itself packs very little changes. At least the communication sent to us by AMD only mentioned one significant change: that the Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) OpenCL runtime is enabled by default within Catalyst.

Other than that, AMD advertised its next Catalyst release, which is now just a "Preview" driver (not WHQL-signed, use isn't covered under warranties). The Catalyst 11.4 Preview comes with a much larger changelog, which is listed below.

Changelog of Catalyst 11.4 Preview
  • A number of performance optimizations, as highlighted here.
  • Performance enhancement for Shogun 2 (DX11 version) when running Anti-Aliasing
  • Includes enhancements to the AMD Catalyst Control Center
o New task based Display Management controls
    - Simplifies the configuration of displays and display settings
    o New Eyefinity setup group
    - Setting up an Eyefinity group has never been easier
o New branding (based on system configuration)
    - AMD based platform - AMD VISION Engine Control Center
    - Discrete AMD GPU with Intel CPU - AMD Catalyst Control Center
o AMD Catalyst update notification (found within the Information Center)
    - Please note this functionality is not yet enabled, but will be in a future AMD Catalyst release
    - This feature will be used to notify users that new AMD Catalyst software packages are available
  • Includes fixes where Dragon Age 2 would hang in DirectX11 on ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series products.
  • Includes fixes where MediaEspresso 6.5 and 6.0 may crash while initializing
  • Includes a fix for game corruption issues in BulletStorm
  • Includes a fix for the AMD Catalyst Control Center install; resolves the issue of not being able to launch CCC after Catalyst has finished installing
  • Includes a fix for the Tessellation slider sometimes setting the incorrect value

If you already have the 11.4 preview drivers there's nothing new - everything is either the same or older than what was in the preview. No new crossfire profiles over the 11.4 previews either, so unless you rename the exe or use radeon pro there is still light flickering in cyrsis 2 in crossfire setups.

btarunrAMD released a timely update to its Catalyst software suite, the package that provides display drivers for AMD/ATI Radeon GPUs, AMD chipset video, APUs, HDMI audio, and related software. The AMD Catalyst 11.3 WHQL presumably provides official support for newly launched AMD GPUs, and addresses outstanding bugs/issues. Unfortunately, AMD did not give out its release notes document, so we're in the dark. We'll update you as soon as we have it. The drivers themselves, however, are yours for the taking.

According to Catalyst Creator, new CAP should be released tomorrow alongside a CAP for the newest 11.4 previewdrivers. That should hopefully fix the Crysis 2 flickering some are having.

Linux drivers are up to, but you have to manually change the link to 11.3 instead of 11.2. No release notes there yet either, but I'm hoping for Xorg 1.10 support, and 2.6.38 final kernel support.

Edit: Nope:
CatalystCreatorCatalyst 11.4 preview is for Windows only. Have to wait until April for Cat 11.4 for Linux (but hoping to get Ubuntu 11.04 support in)

Why would you bother? Anything in the 11.3's will be in the 11.4's and theres an update tomorrow for an newer 11.4.

Might as well wait until tomorrow....

I can't believe it, two months ago I sent them bug report that GPU scaling (maintain aspect ratio) is not working in big resolutions like 2048x1536. They confirmed it, and its still not fixed. Other known bug is that MPEG4 AVC DXVA acceleration in 4K resolution is not working even when ATI announced official support in Catalyst 10.3 IIRC

Hmm on my eyefinity setup, my left monitor randomly starts flickering now. Haven't seen cursor curruption yet, which usually happens right away. Going to wait a few days to see how it goes before I make up my mind if i'm keeping/removing.

I'm fairly iffy on updating drivers... I'm using 10.12 on a 5870 and have read from sources that performance from the newer ones aren't quite as good.

Can anyone get confirmation on this?

11.4 Preview drivers gave a major boost across all 5000 and 6000 series cards!

So does either 11.3 or the new preview fix the FF4 problem?
