AMD Intros Catalyst Application Profiles 12.1 CAP 2

AMD released its latest Catalyst Application Profile update for AMD Catalyst, version 12.1 CAP 2, as it's called, adds application-specific CrossfireX optimizations to the driver, which lets the driver effectively use two or more AMD Radeon GPUs working in tandem optimally. It also fixes any bugs that exist with current optimizations. 12.1 CAP 2 includes profiles for the following applications:
  • Star Wars: The old republic : Improves CrossFire performance and resolves flickering seen on Map
  • Unigine Tropics - Resolves flashing shadow reflections with CrossFire enabled
  • Wargame: European Escalation: Improves CrossFire performance

not really, CAP profiles are mainly for multi-GPU setups

A problem and a question.
Does anyone get a bsod with the new 12.1 drivers like i do?
I have had to fall back to 11.12 or my pc would crach and bsod in most games. would that have sometihng to do with the cap driver or 12.1 itself?
Any word on a fix for this problem?

Ive had BSODs with ARMA II and only ARMA II since i stopped using cat 11.9's.

In theory, no it shouldnt be caused by app profiles, but I have personally seen performance take a huge hit if you dont uninstall the old CAP profiles before you install the new ones.

If your games are causing BSODs, its more to do with the driver itself

Yes. When single GPU's benefit from CAP's, it will say in the release notes.

Examples:
=======
11.8 CAP 3 - Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Improves performance on Single GPU configurations
F1 2011: - Improves performance on Single GPU configurations

11.11 CAP 2 - Saints Row 3: Resolves stuttering seen when playing in CrossFireX mode.
Also provides Single GPU and CrossFireX performance improvements when running in lower resolution configurations

11.11 CAP 3 - Java Control Panel: Fixes black screen corruption seen on Single and Multi GPU configurations when Anti-Aliasing is forced on through the Catalyst Control Center

12.1 CAP 1 - Darkness 2 – Resolves flickering issues on Single GPU configurations when Anti-Aliasing is forced on in the Catalyst Control Center

Are you restarting your computer after uninstall and install of new CAP's each and every time? If not, it's time to start.

Almost the same drill for display drivers. Uninstall old display drivers, restart computer, run a driver cleaner, restart computer, install new drivers, restart computer, play game.
