Wintel Tablets to Start at $599, Enjoy Higher Adoption Than WoA Tablets

Wintel (slang for Windows+Intel architecture) tablets, which launch along with Microsoft's latest Windows 8 operating system, which grab a greater market-share than WoA (Windows on ARM) tablets by the end of 2012, DigiTimes research predicts. This, despite the fact that the x86 and ARM versions of the operating system will be released simultaneously. PC majors such as HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, ASUStek and Toshiba, have all pledged 1-3 models of Wintel tablets by the end of 2012. Although still an emerging market-segment, tablets will see a clash between x86 and ARM architectures, as they are wooing for the same exact class of devices for the first time in computing history. Intel has made a lot of progress in miniaturizing the Atom processor, while led by the likes of Qualcomm and NVIDIA, ARM processors are getting stronger.

um, can you say 2048x1536... if you can not get that resolutoin in a tablet for less then 499, 16Gb... WALK AWAY otherwise it is going to be a :nutkick:

seriously, what is the point of wintel tablets...a 599 tablet, so you can say it runs windows 8?... and it will have a lower resolution than the competition, will not run games that run on a pc (because that GPU will be weak!.)
will need a docking station for the keyboard, just to make it like a laptop. and a weaker laptop at that.
this will require engineering that history shows that these companies won't provide...

so, if you need a Wintel tablet, suck it up, and buy a LAPTOP:toast:, otherwise suck it up, and buy an APPLE tablet.:D
in the end it really is :respect: to apple... for their tablet.

Well, 'wintel' just sounds like a Chinese rip-off of an Intel product... that's actually what I thought of 1st time I saw the name

It will really come down to the weight, battery life, and design. x86 and x64 already have the "apps" but if manufacturers can squeeze out something that is comparable to first generation ARM tablets in size and weight then they might work.

I think you meant 'will' grab a greater market share?

if the arm tablets cant run x86 apps, they'll be far less popular. people will get confused that a windows tablet cant run windows apps (without researching x86 vs arm) and then they'll tell everyone "dont go there, its a piece of shit and not REALLY windows!"
