Windows 8 Out for Consumers in October, Enterprises and Partners in August
Microsoft's next big client operating system, Windows 8, will be out by October 2012. The operating system will be first made available to enterprise customers and hardware partners as early as by August, while the general public will have access to it in October. Along with availability to enterprises, Microsoft will commence the Windows 8 Commerce platform, which means developers of apps for the Metro UI can start monetizing their works.
Windows 8 will get its big sales push at this year's Christmas sales season, when the software will be sold through major sales channels, such as retail, OEM (pre-installed) and special (student, university, government). For those who didn't quite get blown away by Windows 8 (through its Consumer Preview), Windows 7 will be supported looking deep into this decade. The operating system has currently passed the 640 million mark for the number of licenses sold, making it the best selling OS in computing history.

EDIT:Just wanted to clarify I said "MOST" hehehe :toast:
ME had the longest list of technical problems, out of any OS that I can recall.
I am so on the fence with wether or not to get this..
If FPS is up, it's a done deal..
If stability is up, it's a done deal..
Idk about you guys but I've had quite a lot of issues with win 7..
Particularly with browsers and flash video, videos in general, etc.. Most of us have jobs and like our OS's to not be one of them..
As for Win7 what issue have you had? I use IE9 and its been flawless for videos and Flash.
Also Mac is still rough in regards to security and they are just now starting to plug huge holes, I don't trust that.
I use firefox and I am have been having intermittent issues ever since I upgraded to win 7.
XP was infinitely more stable for me..
Flash sometimes crashes, firefox sometimes hangs and crashed or totally stalls my pc, so I have to hard reboot. Sometimes "rarely" right on startup, when I click on firefox, I get a bluescreen once.. Then I reboot and all is well..
Likely more little things that im forgetting.. I just deal with it.
I've tried tons of fixes, reinstalls , drivers, etc etc..
Disabling video hardware acceleration, using flashes uninstaller/installer.
driver sweeper in safe mode, fresh driver installations..
Just happens intermittently still, like out of nowhere, oops flash crashed.. Oh it's fine now.. You were talking about Linux, not Win 8..lol..
unless I misread, which I just read again and I'm pretty sure I didn't.. lol..
But maybe im interpretting your statement wrong.
As for your BSOD and such using Flash.........stop using Firefox. Its less secure then IE9 and Flash sucks on it. The days when it was a great alternative are well over. You are. I was replying to FYFI13. I'm not going Linux. Adobe support on Linux......is well questionable.
and since it seems steam will be releasing its client and its major titles on linux soon i am willing to drop windows just for that.
the only reason i even own a copy of windows is for DX support. that's it.
Only thing I have ever been really concerned with is the security of it. Im ignorant of the OS as a whole. But that's not what is holding me back. Adobe is.
To me it seems the comment was trying to be made that only people capable of running an OS like Linux, which requires more fine tuning, is done only by some elite group of super smart OS users.. XD
Where as the less intelligent people would go with win 8 for simplicity.
Why drag age into this? Also Idk why you think I'm upset or something, I was just havin fun really. I'm not all bent out of shape about it..lol..
It's only windows.. :D
Still..Need..Benchies... Honestly, yea, pretty much the same for me too I think..lol..
If Linux ran games better than MS.. Goodbye MS.. Never thought the day would come again but I guess I'm going back to IE tonight..
