Windows 8 Out for Consumers in October, Enterprises and Partners in August

Microsoft's next big client operating system, Windows 8, will be out by October 2012. The operating system will be first made available to enterprise customers and hardware partners as early as by August, while the general public will have access to it in October. Along with availability to enterprises, Microsoft will commence the Windows 8 Commerce platform, which means developers of apps for the Metro UI can start monetizing their works.

Windows 8 will get its big sales push at this year's Christmas sales season, when the software will be sold through major sales channels, such as retail, OEM (pre-installed) and special (student, university, government). For those who didn't quite get blown away by Windows 8 (through its Consumer Preview), Windows 7 will be supported looking deep into this decade. The operating system has currently passed the 640 million mark for the number of licenses sold, making it the best selling OS in computing history.

I dont have any issues with Windows 8. It has kind of grown on me in the last few months of having the preview on my work laptop.

As long as NVIDIA is involved you have a loooooong wait before you start seeing AAA titles native.

Easy Rhinoit isn't a surprise you and i think a like. after all we are both linux users!
Great minds think a like! :toast:
TheMailMan78Anyone with a brain sees where this is going Easy. Mindweaver just said it out loud. Of course I've been using Apples since OS 7. Not linux mind you but a different way of thinking........pun intended
Most window users wean them self off the brain, and rely on the Computer/Microsoft to do there thinking.

Red_MachineHey, ME gets a bad rap, just like Vista. I had less problems with it than I did with 95 or 98.
Lol then you don't know ME..
ME had the longest list of technical problems, out of any OS that I can recall.

Easy Rhinoyou will all still use it. i guarantee it.
Undoubtedly yes...though well after release and I am surely not going to happily pre-order like I did for Windows 7 (for the first time ever).
TheMailMan78Hello Linux, Goodbye gaming.
Screw that. The latter, mainly, of course.

hardcore_gamerUnless Windows 8 comes with noticeable improvements in gaming, I'm gonna stay with 7.
I think it does, it uses the resources of xp with "better looks"

Need..Benchmarks..Badly....
I am so on the fence with wether or not to get this..
If FPS is up, it's a done deal..
If stability is up, it's a done deal..
Idk about you guys but I've had quite a lot of issues with win 7..
Particularly with browsers and flash video, videos in general, etc..

Get OSX then.

As for Win7 what issue have you had? I use IE9 and its been flawless for videos and Flash.

I like W8. And IE10 seems fast and good. Metro doesn't bother me much. I'm not even sure but maybe I will upgrade 7 to 8, or maybe I'll just use Linux; all the software I need can be found there plus I don't care about gaming, nobody denied consoles anyway *smirk*

Err.. OK? So, you feel Windows 8 will be more of a job? I think once people use it with a touch screen it will be more intuitive.

I plan to hold on to win 7 as long as I can on my desktop, but tbh I am very excited about win 8 x86 tablets, I may sell my iPad (my eBook reader) to get 1 if the price/performance/weight & size/battery life are good.

OSX? yea mac, I think not.. I just said I wanted better gaming. That would be a huge step backwards..lol
Also Mac is still rough in regards to security and they are just now starting to plug huge holes, I don't trust that.

I use firefox and I am have been having intermittent issues ever since I upgraded to win 7.
XP was infinitely more stable for me..
Flash sometimes crashes, firefox sometimes hangs and crashed or totally stalls my pc, so I have to hard reboot. Sometimes "rarely" right on startup, when I click on firefox, I get a bluescreen once.. Then I reboot and all is well..
Likely more little things that im forgetting.. I just deal with it.

I've tried tons of fixes, reinstalls , drivers, etc etc..
Disabling video hardware acceleration, using flashes uninstaller/installer.
driver sweeper in safe mode, fresh driver installations..
Just happens intermittently still, like out of nowhere, oops flash crashed.. Oh it's fine now..

You were talking about Linux, not Win 8..lol..
unless I misread, which I just read again and I'm pretty sure I didn't.. lol..

TheMailMan78Hello Linux, Goodbye gaming.
Why do you say that. Gaming on Linux is going to die, Nvidia doesn't want anything to do with it now. And with Windows 8 all our games from Windows 7 work fine. BF3 works perfectly with W8.

But maybe im interpretting your statement wrong.

OSX is far more easy to use then Win7 and for security you just can't be retarded.

As for your BSOD and such using Flash.........stop using Firefox. Its less secure then IE9 and Flash sucks on it. The days when it was a great alternative are well over.

You are. I was replying to FYFI13. I'm not going Linux. Adobe support on Linux......is well questionable.

Where in that sentence did I say Linux? I said Window users. This thread is about Windows 8 not linux... ;) Easy Rhino said we are Linux users and that I am, but I'm a Windows user as well. Stop being defensive over me say, "Most" and understand what I'm saying. I don't know how old you are, but think of what people use to do and those things people do on pc/windows or now i'm saying it "Linux" or "OSX" with out thinking. That's the point I was trying to drive and not that 1 OS is better than the other. :toast: Now I have to get back to doing a job that "Most" of us have... ;)

ive been gaming on linux for years using WINE and an nvidia card. a lot of titles, including SKYRIM, play very well. sure you have to do some research into which libraries you need but in the end it still works.

and since it seems steam will be releasing its client and its major titles on linux soon i am willing to drop windows just for that.

the only reason i even own a copy of windows is for DX support. that's it.

I get what you are saying but that's a lot of work for Joe Six Pack....like me  When Adobe throws full support behind Linux and I start to see games become native to Linux you can bet Ill be giving it a try. Always wanted too. :toast:

Only thing I have ever been really concerned with is the security of it. Im ignorant of the OS as a whole. But that's not what is holding me back. Adobe is.

Seemd like you were responding to this:

I misunderstood apparently?

To me it seems the comment was trying to be made that only people capable of running an OS like Linux, which requires more fine tuning, is done only by some elite group of super smart OS users.. XD

Where as the less intelligent people would go with win 8 for simplicity.
Why drag age into this? Also Idk why you think I'm upset or something, I was just havin fun really. I'm not all bent out of shape about it..lol..
It's only windows.. :D

Still..Need..Benchies...

Honestly, yea, pretty much the same for me too I think..lol..
If Linux ran games better than MS.. Goodbye MS..

TheMailMan78Hello Linux, Goodbye gaming.
There won't be any problems with my laptop and netbook as i'm not gaming on these anyways and on desktop i can keep Windows 7 as secondary OS until Windows 9 (or whatever it's called) will be released. If Windows 9 <= Windows 8, then well... I'll make a baby
