Intel 335 Series Solid State Drive Appears in Japan

The 330 Series solid state drives are already old news for Intel as the Santa Clara-based company has already begun to roll out the 335 Series drives. The first 335 model, codenamed SSDSC2CT240A4K5, just went on sale in Japan and it features a 240 GB capacity, a 2.5-inch form factor (9.5 mm thickness), a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, a SandForce SF-2281 controller, and 20 nm MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory.

Intel's 335 Series SSD delivers read/write speeds of up to 500/450 MB/s, is backed by a three-year warranty, and costs ¥16,980 (about $214). 80 GB and 180 GB models are expected to arrive in Q1 2013.

Am I the only one wondering what happened to Intels own ssd controllers? The one on the postvilles was quiet competetive.

They've done that for their 520 and 330 SSDs as well.

Yup.
Still I am not a big fan of sandforce on any firmware. Having played/owned a few different models using data compression techniques to make the read and write speed look good is cheating. In real Life I have noticed that Samsung 830 and crucials M4 drives were miles ahead. Hell even my X-25M intel blew away my vertex 2. The only good sandforce drive I used was the mushkin chronos deluxe 240GB with toggle flash memory since then it wouldnt be restricted by most of the performance impending crap.

Yeah, I hear Samsung's controller and SSDs are very nice.

I don't think it's cheating to use intelligent algorithms. Compression saves memory and time, there is no cheating in this. Seeing that it is possible to do so transparently just poses the questions why others(even HDD manufacturers) don't adopt this system.
