BFG 8800GTS on sale early

Some lucky Austrians got their BFG Geforce 8800GTS early. 12 of them were sold by a local computer store today. Lets just say I am one of those lucky ones:

Prices for a Geforce 8800GTS range from 429 Euros for the Asus variant to just under 500 Euros. The BFG sells for 469.99€.

just checked the shop for something else...and there it was. There were 6 left at the time of my order. The only way to get one put aside for me was to hit "will pick up" instead of delivery. So I drove 20 miles to pick it up :D

The guy behind the counter (I know him well) jokingly said "we had to send em all back" *G* I just smiled and said "yea just the GTX not the GTS" and he was "right you are" and went to fetch my card from the back :D

3dMark06 benchies in 20 min. ;)

alright, do not be dissapointed:
3DMark 06
7555 on a normal Windows maschine X2 4600+ (S939) with 2GB DDR400 and dirty windows install.

remember G80 is mainly CPU dependent...so benchmarks with a QuadCore or high speed Core 2 Duo/X2 AM2 chip will yield much better results!

I will do a complete review if I get the time for it :D

cheers

I don't totally agree with you on this, I mean, although a faster proc will certainly help in every benchmark and game, the G80 isn't per se any more or less CPU dependent than any other particular GPU, I would say that 3DMark06 is very CPU dependent because of how it integrates the CPU score to the overall score. Check the 3dMark03 and '05 scores some other sites are posting for further proof of this :)

Thanks for the benchmark though, and congrats on your new video card.

maybe we could get individual sm2.0 and sm3.0 scores in addition to overall score

ah :) well I do not mean 3dMark06, I actually mean the GPU/CPU pair. A 8800 with a high end CPU will certainly give you a lot more points:

I will take the reports of theINQ with a grain of salt, but it is safe to say, that the GPU is more CPU dependant than ever before...

I will OC everything (System and such) to see how far I can get.

Well the very inefficient engine of Gothic 3 is a killer for Graphic Cards...
I am able to turn everything on HIGH with 1920x1200 no probs.

will let ya know bout numbers in other games as soon as I start working on the review.

cheers
