TRENDnet Announces Open Source DD-WRT Compatibility for Wireless AC Routers

TRENDnet, a best-in-class wired and wireless networking hardware brand, today announces open source DD-WRT firmware compatibility for the high performance TEW-818DRU (v1.0), TEW-812DRU (v2.0), and TEW-811DRU (v1.0), Wireless AC routers.

DD-WRT is the leading Linux based alternative open source firmware for wireless routers and access points. DD-WRT unlocks operational modes such as using a router as a wireless extender, client bridge, or access point. It also offers a comprehensive set of controls including the ability to modify wireless radio power, define advance access controls, choose from a greater DDNS service support list, create a Wi-Fi hotspot, setup VLANs for the router's wired ports, define advanced USB port functionality, manage enhanced QoS controls, and more.
"Networking prosumers and enthusiasts let us know how much value DD-WRT firmware," stated Zak Wood, director of global marketing for TRENDnet. "Based on consumer feedback, we have opened our three highest performance routers to the popular DD-WRT firmware."

I've never had a problem with TRENDnet routers despite the low price. DD-WRT support is icing on the cake.

Good move.

*Installing DD-WRT firmware voids TRENDnet's warranty. <- Really? Then why send out a press release when you screw your customers over by not honouring the warranty if they install what you claim is supported?

Installed the latest DD-WRT on the 818DRU and it reboots like crazy; not succeeded to get a full day uptime yet. Most reboots seem to occur while downloading torrent files.

Is there a manufacturer that will honor their router's warranty if you put a third party firmware on it?

They are saying the hardware supports it. That's all.

Some routers comes with it pre-installed...
That said, why should the warranty be voided on the hardware just because you change the software?
It's not like the warranty of your PC is voided if you do that, although they might be unable to give you support, but that's a different matter.
