Want to be the Face of TechPowerUp?

TechPowerUp's foray into the YouTube medium can be led by you. Yes, you! Do you think you can talk hardware and gaming in front of a camera, for our thousands of readers? If so, sign up for our TechPowerUp YouTube Channel project, and you could be the face of this site on YouTube. All you need to be, is aged between 21 and 30, based in US or Canada; be presentable (we're not too strict on this), and have a good command over English, with an easy international accent; have basic video editing skills, and most importantly, have a good aptitude with PC hardware (you needn't be too technically sound or have a formal education in this area).

Upload a sample of your work, while keeping it "unlisted" (eg: describe a piece of hardware, or explain a recent news story at length, while keep it interesting. We are interested in seeing your face, personality and speech), and e-mail a link to that video to w1zzard@techpowerup.com . You needn't be a regular forum member of TechPowerUp. Do not post links to your videos in the comments. We will get back in touch with shortlisted candidates to talk turkey.

btarunrSorry, I can see how that can be misread. Fixed. We're seeking entries only from US and Canada (this is for accent, logistical and passport-mobility reasons). We can make an exception for someone from the UK, if they think their accent is clear.
You're making a huge assumption about the language skills and abilities of the majority of my fellow citizens and the myriad of strange accents we have!

Out of curiosity, why USA and Canada only? I always thought TPU was, as opposed to Anandtech, an european site. I mean Wizzard is from Germany and it's his site, right?

They say for accent, logistical and passport-mobility reasons. Note my response above on the accent part.

Oh lol.
I'm not sure they would be excited about someone from Minnesota (and there are much worse) :P

btarunr"Based out of" is valid English (eg: I'm based out of India), but I changed it so it's easier to read. The content of the OP never changed.
I know I know, not saying its not valid, just saying it sounds odd/illogical to me

Yeah, just one of those many oddities of English that rarely translate directly because they are illogical.

I nominate @RCoon to be the face of TPU.

I cant think of anyone better suited for the job - top guy all around.

the guy works in IT, he writes for TPU/NPU, he keeps the forums clean and slaps bitches for TPU but above all, he likes a good whisky which is certainly something i can get down with.

I would just close all entries and throw your monies at that guy.

pmcguireI'm going to make you a video, I just need something that interests me. I suppose I could rebox my GTX980 and do that. Going to visit my hometown for a few days first.
You can present anything, doesn't have to be technical, we're interested in you as a person, not the product you hold in your hands :)

We consider ourselves global. US/CA in this case for the native language skills.

It's called English for a reason you goddamned weirdo. English people speak it rather well and with some of the most crisp accents you'd never believe.

I'm not interested in position because I'm hideously ugly and camera shy, have a shocking profanity problem and speak with a rapid (though some would say Posh) Glaswegian accent, motherfuckers.

EDIT: and I'm too old at 41. Bawbags the lot of ye!

I speak English here in America but a British accent sounds cool. I think you're going to have a hard time trying to find a young hot chick that knows a lot about tech. I second the suggestion for RCoon.

The thing about wanting a US/Canada person because of language is it's based on a misconception that the U.S. has a generic sound and dialect. For those that know German, for instance, a Berliner has to concentrate to understand the dialect of Rhineland-Pfalz or Baden-Wurtemberg, and ALL of them wonder WTH Berliners did to eff up the language so much with some of their oddities.

In the U.S. it's just as bad, only multiply by power of 10, with well over a hundred dialects and accents, some based on as small a region as the 50 miles surrounding New Orleans where I live. Then there is the seriously delinquent state of the U.S. educational system, and you see the assumption goes south. The only people who really have that "neutral" accent you are looking for have had it trained into them because they are in the television news industry.

Watching @buildzoid's demo last week, it occurred to me that he sounds more American than most U.S. citizens.

Just my two cents.

He's still a candidate. We're just taking in more entries.

I can change it. I've gone to a British school up to grade 3 and grade 3 onward a more American sounding school. So I can change it. The only problem is that I tend to flip flop between a very light British accent and a light American accent depending on which one I last heard.

It's too bad I'm bellow the age limit.

How about Australia? We speak English here. I'm a little surprised the UK isn't part of the selection criteria as well.

I'm glad this is opened up. I'll probably rerecord my entry with a pc component since that's what I'm more comfortable with.

i think our crappy internet rules us out, as well as added expenses for travel to trade shows, shipping costs for items to review, etc etc.

People from northern Ohio, northwestern Pennsylvania and northwestern New York as well as those from Toronto Canada make up a vast majority of T.V. Journalists because we speak in a very clear bland accent. I believe that people in central California share the same accent as well.

Sounds like a blast. I am very interested in this.
Problem(s) is. My rural broadband(200k dl booo), I work 60-70 hrs a week already, I'm 38, I live in N.S. so I sound like a drunk fisherman;)(not my fault), I cuss naturally and by that I mean I can't stop(My Dads fault). I can edit Youtube videos from my time managing a Chrysler sales media team and have done lots of walk around vid's but most of the time was spent editing(They should have a bleep tone) not filming.
All kidding aside. Shame on you guys for your timing.
Crap! I should have stayed in town. 2.4 Mb dl's there. Once I left Chrysler I removed all "my" Youtube work as well. (spite)
What about @cadaveca ?
Edit: Hilarious your reading now.

btarunrHow "mobile" is your passport? How close are you to California (if we decide to send you for interviews/visits in the Bay Area)? How are air-fares in your country compared to US/Canada (because they're going to be on our coin)? How easy is it for us to send hardware into your country with minimal BS at the customs? These are some of the reasons why we're iffy with people outside North America.
urgh such a shame i do fail that litmus-test ins ome points most likely:
air fares are cheap as hell seeing as we're devaluated to insanity here(think Euro-trip where they go to eastern europe and live like kings for 1 dollar haha), passport movility, probably worldwide(specially to russia!) but we do require stupid VISA to the US(mild annoyance), but for EU and CIS, nothing. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT our customs are full of shit, maximal BS guaranteed, steep import duties, legal roadblock for almost anything. And i do believe i have good english but my accent is probably thicker than an Hindi.
Such a loss for my fine Italian savant look :P
