GALAX Semi-custom GeForce GTX 1080 Graphics Card Pictured

GALAX is ready with a custom-design (technically semi-custom) GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. Pictured below, the card combines a custom-design lateral-flow, blower-type cooler, with what appears to be the NVIDIA reference PCB (board # PG411). Like the reference "Founders Edition" card, the GALAX GTX 1080 draws power from a single 8-pin PCIe power connector.

The card lacks a back-plate, and bears a minimalist cooler design that could make it an ideal buy for those seeking a "no frills" GTX 1080 card at close to the $599 MSRP NVIDIA set for this SKU. Normally, NVIDIA and AMD have their reference-design cards priced at the MSRP for the SKU, but this time around, the company is monetizing its reference-design, by selling it at a $100 premium. The GeForce GTX 1080 goes on sale from May 27, 2016.

There will be better 599$ options, its that simple. This card has nothing much to offer.

Well... it's a GTX 1080 ... that is cheaper than "founders edition" ... that's is already enough for most of us. Aesthetically (not that it matters AT ALL in my windowless cases ever) I would have liked it without the glossy part in the middle ... but... it's never going to be visible anyway, so who cares?

Looks like reference card here... just with a cheap looking plastic cooler Shroud. So the Shroud it what makes the Founders Edition more expensive. Awesome.... ~_~

ZOTAC's custom cooled GPU was suggested to be close to the $699 price point. Methinks that many custom cooled GPUs will end up closer to the founder edition cards price wise.

It might have a single 8 pin connector, but the PCB has a space for a second one facing the rear, not the top.

Like I said people, GTX 680-ish reference card for MSRP prices! Expect the real ref card to be more expensive (if not 699$).

Bad reference cooler+ reference PCB + ugly design, not as good as regular one = "semi-custom" card

Magic. Maybe W1zzard made this magic? :D

Yeah, that's about it. Otherwise, that plastic shroud looks like crap! Hopefully they at least kept the higher-quality blower fan that is actually fairly good (and not as noisy as cheaper ones) on the higher-end Reference Nvidia cards.

They took the cooler off one of their GTX 980s, peeled the stickers off, and slapped it on their GTX 1080 FE(since the stickers don't match their GTX 1080 FE insane clown posse box). They couldn't even be bothered to make new stickers for it to match the new box art. Nice! :shadedshu:

What's funny is their site doesn't show it that way. Because it would be too easy to see what they've done there. LMAO!!
