AMD Announces New Radeon Embedded GPUs

AMD today announced the AMD Embedded Radeon E9170 Series graphics processing unit (GPU). The new processor is the first "Polaris" architecture-based AMD Embedded discrete GPU available in multi-chip module (MCM) format with integrated memory for smaller, power-efficient custom designs, as well as PCI Express and MXM formats for standard form factor systems. The E9170 Series GPU is ideal for devices that require premium graphics and expanded display capabilities while meeting exacting power and thermal efficiency demands. AMD is extending its core graphics technology, delivering crystal clear resolution and a stunning and seamless 4K experience across multiple displays to a growing number of markets, including digital casino games, thin clients, medical displays, retail and digital signage, and industrial systems.

The AMD Embedded Radeon E9173 GPU, based on the "Polaris" architecture, leverages an optimized 14nm FinFET manufacturing process to provide up to 3X the performance-per-watt over previous generations of AMD Embedded GPUsi. By offering sub-40W TDP in a small package, AMD enables a broader range of products, adding a new level of scalability to the AMD Radeon Power-Efficient Embedded GPU portfolio. With support for up to five simultaneous 4K displaysii, the E9170 Series GPU virtually eliminates the need for additional processors and duplicate hardware to create an immersive multimedia environment. Additionally, the option to select from MCM, MXM and PCI Express modules increases design flexibility while minimizing complexity.

Availability
The AMD Embedded Radeon E9170 Series GPU in PCI Express and MXM module configurations are planned to be available in October 2017, and the E9170 Series GPU MCM module configuration is planned for November 2017.

JackOne780 Ti keeps a slight lead despite it being a lowclocked version and not fulfilling its true potential you should say. GTX 780 meanwhile is a totally stripped down version of GK110 and not overly relevant to me - it certainly wasn't a good buy compared to R9 290/290X at its time, but it was also released before them, sou you'd not know the 290 is better for the same price. People always have to remember release and relevance times if they talk about the past, out of context, it doesn't make much sense to talk about old GPUs. Fact is, the 780 Ti was released to counter the 290X, because the 290X was actually faster than Titan and 780 or comparable to the Titan at least, with the problem being the Titan was overprized at a 1000 bucks. The 780 Ti did that and it is still a very capable GPU today, nothing changed.

It is certainly a good game to compare performances of both sides.

"Fine Wine" isn't a myth, but also comes down to underperforming drivers of AMDs in the past. The issue is mostly fixed now, I don't see Vega getting a lot of performance uplifts through drivers today, that basically means it's already runing peak performance from day 1 besides its additional features that are maybe not used today. But that was never a given anyway.
You are correct for the most part but now it isnt as much about drivers due to dx12, however feature set makes a ton of difference. With more games taking advantage of dx12 features, vega is likely to remain relevant for a while. It isnt much a "fine wine" thing and rather a design methodology difference between nvidia and amd. In nvidias case because they are updating their architecture every year they always tune the architecture for current games, while amd invest in features that are likely to benefit moving forward. A deep dive into the vega architecture will make that very clear as many features arent applicable to older games.

I would rather buy a Vega than 1070/1080 anyway if I'd be to buy now. Just the 1080 Ti is really superior. Wow we're way offtopic here
