PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Goes Mobile

After being crowned as Steam's third best-selling game ever, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is on its way to conquer the mobile world. Developed by LightSpeed & Quantum Studio and published by Chinese tech giant Tencent, PUBG Mobile has been soft launched in Canada. The game is now available for download at the Google Play Store. PUBG Mobile stays true to the PC version. It was developed on the Unreal Engine 4 and supports features that include 7.1 surround sound and in-game voice chat. For the time being, only the original Erangel map is in the mobile version. The minimum requirements consist of a smartphone with Android 5.1.1 and 2 GB of RAM. Although there is no mention of a minimum processor requirement, the developer states that the game is supported on more than 500 Android devices.

I just don’t understand why/how you would play an FPS on mobile. I mean I play plenty of games on my iPad I even bought FFXV and it’s actually not bad if a little “abridged” But a shooter just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Ok so list me a few things from which you say, the game does run like crap.

So far i've seen:

- Bugs got fixed
- runs GOOD on AMD based hardware, hell even a FX at 4.8GHz with a 580 8GB runs smoothly on WQHD.

I've spend nummerous hours now playing this game and by your saying it should be terribily bricked. It's not. Get over it. The game is a success.

According to the MCV article on this, it was already ported to phones last month. They're just changing the language from Chinese to English.

Either way, I've seen a lot of people play very fancy looking games on their phones. And with the tiny-sized high pixel density phone displays, computationally intensive stuff like anti-aliasing can easily be dropped. Add in some texture compression/downgrade and it's not that hard to imagine it running well on all but the lowest end phones. How the controls will work out is another thing and probably a bigger issue IMO. But hey, people seem okay with Minecraft on phones. So maybe not that bad then...

Well apparently neither of my phones (including an S8+ and Zenfone 2) are part of that "500". Great work , seems like the game stays true to form from other points of view as well ...

You my friend have very low expectations.

Phantom footsteps, sounds that are very inconsistent, random crashes, fps that fluctuate wildly, crappy vehicle physics, crappy physics in general like dropping 5 feet and getting knocked, man I could keep going for days.

Did I forget to mention the hackers? I mean flying buses and boats are only funny for so long.

I think the random crashes are more common due to overheating hardware rather then in game. I did'nt had one single crash in my course of over 150 hours. I think the 'stupid' things make the game fun.

I follow such vids every day now almost...

The overheating theory is interesting but incorrect. I've personally have had random crashes with both CPU and GPU in the 50c range. Happens on both Nvidia and AMD. Friends with systems on high end or low end systems get random crashes. It was really bad with Nvidia with the built in highlights option for a while. Not to mention they had to roll back the last update because it would not launch or crash right away for a lot of people.

Those videos while funny it gets old after a while.

When your squad is down to the last 20 players and random flying vehicles go through buildings it's only funny for so long.

Sure, why not. They just released achievements and pretty much fixed the lag at the start of the game and are introducing ping locks. I never had big performance issues, but they also worked hard on that. The scopes are finally clear as well. They also fixed a lot of bugs. The roadmap for coming months looks sweet.
