OtherSide Entertainment Releases Pre-Alpha Gameplay Footage of System Shock 3
System Shock is one of the most revered, iconic franchises for PC gaming. One of the first games to thoroughly explore the trope of the rampant AI in a fully realized world (be it lore or mechanics-wise), it has left a taste of grandeur on those that actually got to play it before some of us gamers became too blindsided by pretty, current graphics.
Developer OtherSide Entertainment, who have the rights to develop further worlds in the franchise, have just released a pre-alpha gameplay teaser that at least serves to give us a taste of their art and mood direction. I got some flashbacks to the first Dead Space game whilst watching this, but that might just be me. This really does look like one of the darkest renditions of AI-powered reckonings we've seen to date. Here's hoping for a good, engaging storyline. Check out the teaser after the break.

My conscience(or whatever is inside of us, our Soul? I don't know...) starts speaking up and disturbing my peace. That's when I know I've seen enough...:).
Again...might not be the popular opinion...but it IS mine.
Storyline looks about the same. I can't remember if this is a remake or some form of sequel. I'm sure Ford or RTWJunkie will step in and correct us on that soon enough.
Best,

I like the game's footage, and I have more reassurance from the fact that it's financially backed by investors (substantially, I may say), but there are some red flags which may or may not manifest in the final quality (e.g. being a rushed cashgrab)...
Kinda looking forward to this. Looks like it is materializing well.
I haven't played either of these titles and don't know anything about them.
In the past, I've avoided the Tom Clancy type games(Splinter Cell is coming to mind) because of the 3rd person perspective. Traditionally....I've never liked to purchase or support companies that develop games only in 3rd person. Although...I do play games like Fallout/Skyrim that allow you to play in first or third person, but that's about it really.
Why don't I like the 3rd person perspective? I actually do like it, when it's done correctly, but that's rather rare. Batman Arkham Asylum is a game that is done properly, most games are not so they leave me with a constant claustrophobic feeling that I'm not seeing enough of what's going in the world, or the character is too small AND feels too far away in the screen. The camera doesn't pan correctly etc etc. I can go on and on...I actually have a long list of pet peeves with 3rd person gaming, but I can sum it up succinctly.
If the 3rd person perspective breaks game immersion...then the title isn't for me. Sadly....that's usually the case 9 out of 10 times.
Not to mention...with my health the way it is....I haven't been able to game as much as I'd like. I get dizzy too damn easy any more. I attempted to play Singularity, Homefront, and Dishonoured over the last month or two only to have to stop because of nausea &/or dizziness. Quite disappointing....
So...to sum up jaggerwild, I'm probably the last guy you should be asking about titles! :). That's what RTWJunkie and Ford are for....;).
Take care,
Liquid Cool
