Blizzard Employees Protest Company's Blitzchung Ban

Blizzard employees protested the company's decision to ban Hearthstone player "Blitzchung" from an event for his opinions on the ongoing situation in Hong Kong SAR. Some employees covered up a portion of a floor decal in the company's office that read "Think Globally," and "Every Voice Matters," in protest. Blizzard's MMORPGs are "massively" popular in China, with Chinese Internet giant Tencent holding an equity stake. Some see the move to ban "Blitzchung" as the company "bending the knee" to China by taking a position on the situation in Hong Kong, instead of remaining neutral. The picture of a ruled piece of paper covering up the company floor decal with duct tape was tweeted by former Blizzard employee and eSports industry observer Kevin Hovdestad.

ErnstInEarnestSomeone break the rules, u throw him out. Rescind of prize money? Fire the casters who let it happened? These are heavy handed decisions, with obvious self censorship in mind.
That is against our value.
Again, you break the rules, you forfeit everything. This is how everything has always worked in any competition. Why is it different now? Yes fire the casters who let it happen because they went against the rules they agreed upon and allowed it to happen. If you let someone into a restricted section they werent allowed in and the company found out, you wouldnt expect to be fired because of it? Same principle applies here. I disagree with it being censorship.

Only partially. They still burned bridges that aren't likely to be rebuilt any time soon.

CrAsHnBuRnXpWhy does everybody go up in arms about everything these days?

The esports rules state that you dont bring anything political into the sport. Someone did, they got punished for it. Good cause or not, he broke the rule that he (and everyone else playing) agreed to.
Because the punishment was way too severe, China is trying to take over a sovereign city-state, China is a communist hell hole with the same families in power for over 50 years now, Blizzard response inside China was how they would never ever allow someone to bad talk dear heavenly China.

So a heavy handed punishment to a guy who said something mild for 5 seconds in an interview, apologetic and ass kissing to China, couple that with the fact that China is a communist run hell hole of a bunch of corrupt families who've held power for over 50 years now, the fact that China are trying to invade Hong Kong and take it over and the fact that a Western company values money more than freedom.

lynx29BLIZZARD FINALLY CAVED LMAO
Technically we call this ' DAMAGE CONTROL' ; playing the appeasement card is the best they can do on a tight rope.
Apology will alienated the Chinese ; silence will hurt their revenue from the West.

I'd say cut em off and build a wall around em. the fact they force companies to test on animals in order for cosmetics to be sold there is terrible :( They also so bizarre experiments there that not enough ppl talk about. How anyone can stand up for china and call themseles progressives are the biggest hippycrites known to man
