SilverStone Intros AD120-DC Pico Power Supply

SilverStone today introduced the AD120-DC, a pico power-supply designed for SFF builds without enough room for PSU, and which rely on power-bricks. It is, quite literally, a 120 W power brick that puts out a 12 V, 2-pin DC output. You can either plug this directly to motherboards that have 2-pin DC inputs, or use the included distribution board that takes in this 2-pin DC input, and uses DC-to-DC switching to put out a conventional 24-pin ATX connector, an 8-pin EPS, and various peripheral connectors such as SATA power, Molex, etc. The brick measures 160 mm x 25 mm x 45 mm (DxHxW). The company didn't reveal pricing or availability.

For 120W this is pretty big for "pico". I think about this when I hear that: www.mini-box.com/picoPSU-160-XT

I just really like that you plug it directly into the motherboard.

Curious about the price because this looks really low quality.

Yeah, especially with that kind of power rating this is a poor solution compared to a typical plug-in DC-ATX "picoPSU". The one in my HTPC can do 200W and is much smaller than this both on the AC-DC and DC-ATX side. (Also, if you know where to look you can get those made for much higher wattages than this, the challenge being sourcing a beefy AC-DC PSU to match.)

Well, all those CapXon capacitors really don't create an aura of reliability and trust. Also, all those wires kind of defeat the idea of a tidy SFF build.
I really don't see a place for this in a world where PicoPSU exists for SFF builds and SFX/SFX-L exists for GPU-equipped SFF builds.

Nope, they sell low quality till high quality stuff. If you buy the low quality, you get the low quality, if you buy the high quality, you get the high quality.

Which is actually true for most brands.
