TechPowerUp Releases NVCleanstall v1.8.0: Take Control Over Your NVIDIA Driver Installation

TechPowerUp released the latest version of TechPowerUp NVCleanstall, our lightweight utility that gives you complete control over your NVIDIA GeForce driver installation, letting you pick and choose only the components you really need, and filtering out those that you don't, including those which aren't presented as an option in NVIDIA's own driver installer.

The latest version 1.8.0 improves performance with driver signature rebuilding, which previously took minutes, and now only takes a second or two. On fresh installations, NVCleanstall also prevents Windows from overriding your driver selection, by automatically downloading a driver from Windows Update. When your Internet connection drops, or you are working offline, the app no longer shows an error message and simply allows you to refresh when the connection is restored. The NVCleanstall background check can now determine whether you are using a desktop or a mobile platform, and suitably suggest the best driver. Among the interface fixes include Virtual Audio being made a dependency for Shadow Play (without which the latter would break); and a handy command-line argument to automatically install NVCleanstall.

The change-log follows.

  • Greatly improved performance when rebuilding the driver signature, takes only a second now
  • While NVCleanstall is running, Windows Update will be blocked from automatically downloading and installing any graphics driver
  • When no Internet connection is detected, fail gracefully and add a "Refresh" option to first screen
  • When NVIDIA Control Panel App download is selected, but no Internet detected, show a notification, with retry option
  • Background version checker can now distinguish between desktop and laptop
  • Virtual Audio is now a required component for Shadow Play
  • Added component info for NvModuleTracker and FrameView SDK
  • Added command line switch /install, to install NVCleanstall on the local machine. You may pass additional InnoSetup scripting arguments after /install

I really appreciate the work put into this to have granular control over the components that get installed. But I have a question, as long as I only choose to install the base driver using the official executable is there anything beneficial to using this tool?

What do you mean by "base driver"? Go to nvidia.com -> drivers -> download -> run what you downloaded ? that will install everything, except for GFE, whcih you can deselect. I strongly recommend you actually try out NVCleanstall and form your own opinion

Hi,
Win-10 is the problem even with disabling auto driver installing mostly because it has a driver store which is old and installs stuff even without a internet connection.

Fair enough. I'll give it a shot when the next driver update comes out.

Worked with minor added steps, I had to update Lenovo driver first and then applying your apps. Other than that it work really well, thanks.
