Seagate Ramps 20TB HDD Shipments Answering Mass Data Growth

Data drives today's most innovative technology and business breakthroughs. Maximizing the value of an organization's data is dependent on the ability to store, access, and activate as much data as possible. Today, Seagate Technology Holdings plc, a world leader in mass-data storage infrastructure solutions, launched the new Exos X20 20 TB and IronWolf Pro 20 TB conventional magnetic recording (CMR)-based hard disk drives (HDDs), increasing mass-capacity data storage capabilities.

Seagate's Exos X20 enterprise HDD is designed for maximum storage capacity and the highest rack-space efficiency. Built with cloud storage in mind, the 20 TB Exos X20 delivers performance for hyperscale data centers and massive scale-out applications. With low latency of 4.16 ms and repeatable response times, Exos X20 provides enhanced caching that performs up to three times better than solutions that only utilize read or write caching. Exos X20 also delivers an increased sustained data rate (SDR) of up to 285 MB/s.
With available Seagate Secure technology and a 2.5M-hr MTBF rating, enterprises count on Exos X20 to realize their greatest data and operational efficiencies, and highest storage densities in the datasphere.

The Exos X20 HDD can be paired with Seagate's recently announced Exos CORVAULT intelligent storage system to deliver maximum data density in a small footprint. Built on Seagate's 4U chassis accommodating 106 Exos enterprise drives in only seven inches (18 cm) of rack space, CORVAULT offers over 2.12PB of SAN-level performance built on Seagate's breakthrough storage architecture.

High Capacity, Dependable Solutions for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs)
Seagate's new IronWolf Pro 20 TB HDD offers network attached storage (NAS)-optimized AgileArray technology to provide exceptional RAID reliability and compatibility during the heaviest NAS workloads that SMBs might require. Designed with built-in rotational vibration (RV) sensors, IronWolf Pro 20 TB offers RV mitigation to provide reliable performance for NAS systems with little lag or downtime.

Purpose-designed for heavy user workloads, the new IronWolf Pro 20 TB features high reliability with user workload rate limits of 300 TB/year—a necessity for today's NAS servers. It also offers sustained transfer rates of 285 MB/s giving users the power to collaborate by sharing files, backing up, and tackling heavy workloads in multi-user NAS environments.

The new drive comes equipped IronWolf Health Management system for easy access and monitoring drive health as well as a five-year limited product warranty and three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services for peace of mind.

Shipping this month, Exos X20 20 TB will be available for list price of $669.99 and IronWolf Pro 20 TB is available for $649.99. CORVAULT is available globally via qualified Seagate distributors.

It has a user workload rate of 300 TB/yr? That's 15 full-drive reads/writes per year. It makes people who are concerned about SSD write limits look crazy. I sync my backups more often than 15 times per year.

Really wish storage space technology could advance at the same speed as other technologies. 4K videos aren't small.

HDD rating is meant as workload, not writeload
300TB/yr of workload mean that warranty is void if you read/write more than that

back-up usually is not read-all--write all but incremental
285MB/s peak read mean that only to read the disk you need 70'000s :-D

Odd that Seagate still has a 256MB buffer. WD moved to 512MB with 14TB models already.

1GB buffer would have been a lot better. 256MB on 20TB is a joke.

Still hdd peaking around 280MB/s range, it is huge drawback especially at capacity this big. I have no doubt hdd capacity would grow but there need some serious research in improving speed. It took me 18 hours to write an entire 18tb would nightmare going beyond that.

Well Seagate supposedly has dual actuator Mach.2 drivers that achieve 500MB/s but i dont see them at sale yet despite the fact that marketing for them started years ago.

200TB is an awful lot of data to lose if the drive fails.

Well good thing we have "only" 20TB drives not 200TB.
A typo no doubt but anyone with backups should not worry. Besides im guessing if someone fills the whole drive than that data is problably not super important.
