Corsair Introduces the Flash Survivor Series

Corsair has just launched a new series of ultra-durable USB flash drives, nicknamed Survivor. Building on the massive success of the Flash Voyager line-up, the new (limited availability) Flash Survivor is an extremely durable, water resistant, drop-tested flash USB memory drive. The Corsair Flash Survivor USB drives are available in 4GB and 8GB capacities. The Survivor drives are made of extremely strong CNC-milled, 6061 Type 2 Aluminum, the same used in aircraft parts manufacturing. They are water resistant to 200m, protected from vibration or impact damage and work flawlessly with any USB 2.0 certified peripheral computer port (backward compatible with USB1.1). All Corsair Suvivor drives are also protected by a 10 year limited warranty.

Are these goingto be the modern equivalent of "Glass bottle, cork and paper" messages? If they are for this purpose, there should be an empty space within... which I assume to be the empty space between the casing and usb stick.
How thick is the alu? I want 4mm thick alu..

probably.

they use 6061 aluminum (which isnt exactly aluminum, but an aluminum alloy with magnesium and silicon) to make mag-lite flashlites (among other things), and i've run over my mag-lite once with a car and it only scratched the surface...

Most probably, the Voyager series already survives that, and it's only covered with rubber.

I don't like the two-part assembly. Just more time before you can plug 'er in.

If you're Bear Grylls with a laptop, this drive is for you.

Would it survive if you tried to BBQ it? if it aint then the price doesnt justfy perchase of such a 'robust' luxury. I mean its not as if your gonna take the god damn thing to a squash court & start hammering it against the walls. & If the data is really that important then wouldnt you rather keep it in a safe then take it swimming with you & avoid water getting into it?

bit of a waste of time in my opinion.

Unless its bomb proof, fire proof, can take being run over by a military tank proof, nuke proof, radiation proof, & lightning proof then theres no point in paying for it.

but what kind of an idiot can you be to take a USB mem stick to a f**king god damn swimming pool?

Or a rain forest, or mountain climbing, or sumo wrestling, etc. :p

If you need this, you might wanna find something less dangerous [to your thumb drive] to do.
