AMD Ryzen 7000X3D Processors Have a Distinct Retail Packaging

Here's the first look at the retail PIB package of an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor with 3D Vertical Cache technology. These chips come in box design that's distinct from the rest of the Ryzen 7000 lineup. Bright orange and silver accents make up the front face of the box, with "3D Vertical Cache technology" being mentioned prominently. With the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the PIB package design was probably found to look too similar to the rest of the lineup and practically indistinguishable from those of the 5000G "Cezanne" desktop APUs, which is probably why AMD took this route.

It's very likely that we'll see Socket AM5 desktop APUs based on the "Phoenix Point" monolithic silicon later this year, with its 12 CU RDNA3 iGPU and 8-core/16-thread "Zen 4" CPU that has a 32 MB on-die L3 cache. These processors will have yet another distinguishable retail PIB packaging. AMD's then technical marketing director, Robert Hallock, assured us that the company will continue to invest in desktop APUs (processors with powerful iGPUs), despite Ryzen 7000 desktop processors coming with a low-power iGPU as standard.

So much exaltation in the comment section just because of a product package.

AMD would get fan boys hating on them if they reused the regular boxes for the X3D versions either way. Plus, for some consumers it's important to be able to identify a different product tier by its labeling/box art.

Why the hell do these boxes need to be so big still it's not like they include a cooler anymore so really don't need all that extra room just for the CPU

Am I the only one who thinks new naming would do more good than a new box? "X3D" looks more like an emoji than the name of an IT product, imo.

I agree. The non-3D AM5 CPUs come in a nice slim box that only fits the CPU and the safety instructions. I don't know why that has to change now.

I would be happy if it was in recycled brown cardboard box for all I care. I buy the product not the box. I have an Threadripper 1950X you should have seen the waste on that box. Seriously nowadays you pay 30 bucks extra just to get a fancy box which you dump in the attic or throw away.

farmertrueThe 7950X is an already incredible CPU and will be for years to come. Depending on what you use your pc for, you may not have even benefited from the 7950X3D version.

I've had the 7950X and 4090 since release day and they have far exceeded my high expectations. The CPU is a beast at everything I've thrown at it! Using a 5080x4366 VR resolution on the Varjo Aero on 150+ VR games, live streaming with 11 USB accessories and 14 programs, video editing, video rendering and so on. Nothing has come close to being limited by the CPU.
I agree with you, but for some reason AMD tend to screw their early adopters, as I payed here in Europe 800ish € and in 2 weeks time frame it got cut to 650.... now to have the 3d version for also less even.
I use my PC for compiling code, Automation stuff and gaming ... Microsoft is not letting me switch fully to linux or Mac therefore I m stuck :P.

Yea the early adopters fee can be heavy. I was lucky enough to get $100 off of the 7950X on launch day due to a sale but even if I hadn't I more than alright paying that extra $100 to use a product and get 5ish months of enjoyment out of it before the X3D releases. Or heck, the 2-3 months I had with it before the price cut was still well worth it in my usage and experience.

I hope you have many many years enjoying your 7950X and AMD cpu!
