MSI Announces GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM X Classic—Reuses RTX 30-series SUPRIM X Cooler

MSI quietly rolled out the GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM X Classic. Positioned alongside its air-cooled flagship graphics card, the RTX 4090 SUPRIM X, the new SUPRIM X Classic appears to be reusing the older version of MSI's SUPRIM X cooling solution that the company shipped with RTX 30-series "Ampere" graphics cards, such as the RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM X. The older cooler should capable of handling the thermal loads of the RTX 4090, as it has much lower power-draw than the RTX 3090 Ti. This isn't the only "Classic" graphics card from MSI, with the company planning Radeon RX 7900 series Gaming X Classic graphics cards that reuse the Tri Frozr III cooling solution that the company used with its RX 6900 series Gaming X products. Besides the cooler and product-design there don't appear to be any other difference in specs for the SUPRIM X Classic compared to the RTX 4090 SUPRIM X.

Props to the marketing team. ’Classic’ is the perfect word choice for resuming prior engineering.

That's one way to downgrade your product I guess.. Wonder if the majority of their cards will slowly switch to this version kinda like they do with oc/ non oc variants

Why is it much lower power draw? The RTX 4090's stock power limit is 450W, which is the same as the stock power limit on the RTX 3090 Ti. And really, the supposed "classic" is not really that classic since this design is probably about 2 years old. It sounds like they are trying to reuse the older cooler design for other reasons (likely cost driven), and less for a classic look.

This is hell of a downgrade, how much is left to be seen.

How so? This cooler worked on the 3090Ti which pulled 100w more than the 4090 in the gaming test. So it will do fine.

The cooler can work, but at what effectiveness? I'd very much like to see accoustics and efficiency comparisons between the two. The old one was copper pipe to a plate, while the new one uses a vapor chamber. This is definitely a cooling downgrade

IDK how the "Classic" stacks up to their current 4090 cooler, but I can say for certain the current 4090 coolers are phenomenal. They better be considering their size.

I was lucky enough to purchase a GIGABYTE Gaming 4090 at MSRP off Newegg and in most games, the temperature stays at 60 C and below. I use VSYNC on my display (4k downsampled to 1080p 120hz projector). If I push benchmarks or games that fluctuate between 110 - 120 fps (prolonged 100% GPU utilization), the GPU temp will eventually creep up to 65 C territory but it's never gone above that. Ever. Fan speed and everything is stock. Can barely even hear the fans. Very impressive considering the insane performance this card can muster.

I thought they only did this to AMD but i was wrong, it looks like nGreedia is getting the same treatment.
No double standard = i'm happy.
I see nothing wrong in MSI using older gen coolers if it's for both nGreedia and AMD, aaaand most importantly
if performance is stellar.

Does this mean the Classic will take less slots and/or be thinner in comparison to the original 4090 air cooler?

lightning would be way better than that ridiculous stupid naming ...

in french Suprim sound like "suprimer" which mean "delete" ...
yeah i know ... "Suprim" in that case is more a "toddler speech" for "Supreme" (which as a word, is fine but as a brand is the epitome of "crap" for any years past the period 1994-1999.)

a bit like the Audi E-Tron ... ( "Étron" Musk was right to call it a turd ... )
