To be honest I can understand why soo many people have bought Vista, I myself have bought 4 copies since launch for all my computers...
Of course i'm running vista myself, ultimate x64 - i've got an 8800GTX, i'm not going to waste it on DX9 :P
as "mdm-adph" said, i wonder how many copies were preinstalls?
My guess would be that preinstalls constitute a large portion of the sales (and the same with XP).
Do these numbers include volume licensing? How many bulk licenses for Vista has Dell bought? HP? Are these figures included?
If Bill Gates/etc. are trying to insinuate that there are 40 million individuals out there who have bought a new copy of Vista, they're fooling themselves.
of an OS they have ever seen. :) In fact Dell is even backpedaling
and offering XP again on many of their systems.
"Last month, Microsoft made big hype about 20 million Vista licenses sold in one month. But license sales going into the channel almost certainly cannot equate to PC sales, because nowhere near 20 million computers were sold in February, the first month of Vista availability."

seriously, saying that vista is "popular" on PC's because lots of people might be using it is like saying that the MacOS is "popular" on Macintosh computers. where there isn't any real choice, there isn't real "popularity."
If you want to tout Vista's benefits, do so, but don't spout bullshit numbers.
They force this down peoples throat.
If you want a sign of popularity, look at the Wii Vs PS3.
They cant even keep them on the shelf.
Whereas windows, if you want to go buy a computer, you have no other option. This is nothing more than marketing FUD.. especially considering its coming from CNN money.
For real results, You have to look at how many of those "copies" are OEM.
Probably close to 90% or more.
