AMD kicks off the 2024 International CES with its new Advancing AI PCs event, and we are live-blogging it! AMD is locked in an arms race with Intel to bring local AI acceleration to PCs in the form of on-chip NPUs. The vast majority of PCs lack discrete GPUs, and so the expectation is that NPUs becoming standard to PC processors will help the software industry respond with a host of AI accelerated client applications, all running locally on the machine. If 2023 was the year of the cloud-based AI, 2024 promises to localize it.
