Why do they bother with these? Only schools use them because they are under funded and cant afford computers that actually run software people use in the real world. Just imagine land fills with millions of the paperweights. Shame on you Google.

It's more than enough for schools, or letting people get to know "computers". Why not if they can make them cheap enough and in large volumes?

You mean Chrome? Google docs? Yeah, nobody uses those in the real world LOL.

Also, that's not why schools use them. They use them because they are compliant with digital state testing and why pay $1000 to do testing when a $250 chromebook does the same thing? Bonus points, the chroebooks are FAR more repairable then most laptops today, especially more "affordable" models.

Oh yeah, and managing these things is a BREEZE. And far cheaper, compared to the prices microsoft is charging for AD user accounts and intune licenses. Assigning them to users, buildings, or special purposes is a single click in most cases, compared to the nightmare that is MS's AD system.

That's not google's fault. We now get 8 YEARS of updates. Most people dont keep computers that long. After 8 years the batteries on anything will be worn out. Furthermore, if you are not familiar with inner city schools, most of these will be beaten to hell or destroyed by the student body before that 8 year mark. Doesnt matter if you bought $2500 macbooks, the result would be the same.

You SHOULD be praising your local school systems for being wise with taxpayer money.

Hmm. Easier to manage? They have a ton of issues on our campus. They don’t even run most software. I’m going to have to disagree here. I’d pay more taxes for my kids to use real world tech instead of having to relearn and is and application suite.

Yes. Reassigning entire groups is one or two clicks. Changing a chromebook from doing pre k testing, to being set up for a teacher, or a generic logon for students is 2 clicks to move to a new OU. Changes occur in less then a minute. Active directory is more work to move OUs, and the changes often require GPUDATE and a reboot to take effect.

Bonus points, they have built in remote management, because any chromebook connected anywhere can be seen remotely and changed via google console!

How specific LMFAO.
jallenlabsThey don’t even run most software.
Again, specifics. Chromebooks run ALL state testing, they allow kids to share homework and assignments, and they can use hangouts to communicate virtually. Office 365 ALSO runs on chromebooks. Anything specific for industry isnt gonna be covered on a normal school laptop. If you're teaching CAD or coding, those classrooms have specific laptops or desktops for their use case.

You really have no idea how education works.

Chrome is used in the real world. Most modern business apps are web based. Your assertion that stuff must be "re learned" is misinformation based on how the world worked 15 years ago. The old model of "running windows with specific programs that require windows" is rapidly becoming obsolete.

I work at a university in IT and was a public school teacher for 15 years. Name a corporation or business that uses Chromebooks. :)
