Even doing testufo.com cursor lag and motion tracking tests, I cannot see the point of anything over about 200Hz. The gains are so unbelievably small, and the cost of these super-high refresh panels, the compromises that come with them, and the sacrifices to image quality you need to make to run games at such high framerates far outweigh any benefit. Even for competitive esports players, I would imagine a CONSISTENT 240Hz is far better than some varying 300-500Hz output that varies depending on the GPU+CPU load at any given moment in time.
At 27" sharp, it's 163 PPI.
Yes, I know, it's a very minor detail. But I want this to be accurate!
For example looking at this ACER 390Hz IPS refresh rate compliance from Techless on youtube.
390Hz = 13.3%
240Hz = 66.7% <----not even fast enough for 240Hz. This is why you can't see a difference at higher refresh rates.
HP OMEN TN panel
240Hz = 93.3%
Meanwhile OLED panels maintain nearly 100% refresh rate compliance all the way up to 480Hz and probably higher whenever faster monitors release.
My own displays are a 240Hz OLED TV and a 240Hz VA with strobing (MBR).
I do appreciate that everyone perceives refresh rate and flicker a bit differently, but I was always one of the more sensitive to refresh rates and flicker among my peers. 85Hz was the first flicker-free CRT refresh rate for me, not the 72Hz that seemed to satisfy most people and I honestly don't understand how some people were okay with 60Hz!
For gaming motion on a decent display with 100% rrc, I stop caring somewhere between 150 and 200Hz. I actually run my TV at 4K120 because it's practically impossible to get anything running at 240Hz, even at 1080p given the CPU limitations of the PC that TV is hooked up to.
Edit:
The TV supports VRR but the brightness isn't stable on OLED with VRR so I'd rather just peg it to 120Hz and crank up the eye-candy instead.
