NVIDIA N1x SoC Uncovered by Data Miners - Rumored High-end Laptop Chip

Whispers of a brand new high-end Arm-based mobile processor—rumored to be in the works at NVIDIA HQ—emerged late last year. Data miners have since actively searched for any emerging details—initial bits of evidence have seemingly arrived earlier today, courtesy of Hoang Anh Phu (@AnhPhuH) and WalkingCat (@_h0x0d_). An intriguing Lenovo job listing was uncovered—this entry mentions that the candidate will be tasked with "new SoC NV N1x in-house HW design and development." WalkingCat believes that an upcoming Lenovo Yoga 2-in-1 16-inch (2025) model could emerge with an NVIDIA chipset onboard—they deciphered this through Lenovo's "platform code" naming system (see screenshot below).

Further speculation points to a possible N-series reveal around Computex 2025—Qualcomm rolled out similar announcement timing last summer with its Snapdragon X processor series. NVIDIA is reportedly collaborating with MediaTek on this new endeavor—high-end N1x and mid-tier N1 (non-X) chipsets are reported to be built on Team Green's recently unveiled Blackwell architecture. Tech watchdogs believe that a TSMC 3 nm node process is on the cards. Anh Phu proposes that the new SoCs are performant enough to hit a performance range of 180-200 AI TOPS. Additional industry rumors point to a potential launch window around the fourth quarter of this year, with roughly three million units ready at the starting line.

Sound_CardThe little Nvidia sleeper cell agent awakens to speak marketing. : 0
I'll entertain you - what is the consumer going to do with their all Nvidia Yoga laptop? Microsoft can't even convince people that copilot does anything useful.
I never talked about consumer and copilot. That's not the main target (at least not initially). AI assisted workloads are (running NiM agents). Huge demand for corporate fleets

Darmok N JaladI have the same response to all 3 comments: the customer shouldn't really have to care what architecture their CPU is, so long as the experience meets expectations .
100% agree with this. Most of the time the customer doesn’t really care about finer details about computers and components like we do. As long it’s works and does it well and bring cool things. This is where Nvidia shines(LMAO)
Darmok N JaladFor Apple, no one truly cares what architecture it runs--does it run well (yes), is it efficient (yes), and can it run my software (yes). Apple's execution of Arm is a success
This is also true for Apple customers…expect for me. I have reasons why I like Apple(and honestly laugh at people who brings hate to them but loves Nvidia…) and one of them is their A series and M series SoC. When it comes to performance per watt, no one is touching Apple. Especially when it comes to gaming. Sure it’s not as vast as Windows or Linux, but it’s growing and more game developers are porting their games to MacOS/iOS/iPadOS.

The Apple M4 SoC has better gaming performance than the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme while sipping around the same power or less than the Steam Deck. Apple M4 Pro has around the same wattage as the Z2 Extreme but MUCH better gaming performance.

kondaminSomeone remind me why I should care about TOPS on a laptop as there is nothing interesting that runs on it
I wondered if anyone would bring that up. The only performance figure is some useless AI thing.

Sound_CardI get 17 hours of browsing life from my Zen 3/RDNA2 Asus Zenbook.
Yeah, right.... Plagued into the wall?
TheinsanegamerNThis is a very strong opinion you have. There's absolutely interest in ARM, see macbook sales. Snapdragon's issues dont mean there is no ARM interest, just that the snapdragons have not fared well. If there's anyone who is gonna get the performance and drivers right, its going to be nvidia. Qualcomm has a long history of botched drivers hampering windows performance.

You know, the funny thing about misinformation is the number of forms it takes. For instance, your claim about 17 hours. No model, outsid eof it being a zenbook. Well, I foudn this one:
www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Zenbook-14-UM3402Y-laptop-review-New-Ryzen-7-7730U-name-old-Zen-3-performance.724864.0.html

Which, in fact, hit over 18 hours. at idle. With wifi websurfing, it only hit 12 hours.

Meanwhile, a similarly sized laptop running the snapdragon elite:

www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T14s-Gen-6-laptop-review-Snapdragon-X-Elite-enables-epic-battery-life.868214.0.html

Hit 22 hours of web surfing, or 12 hours at maximum brightness. This is on a 58wh battery, whereas that zenbook had a 75wh battery.

Oh.....oh dear. Hmmmmm........

Just LOL. Do I even need to say anything here?
Since I actually have a zen3+ and an RDNA2 with a 78wh baterry (pretty huge for the size), anything above 6 hours is reaching. Like you have to go into multiple power savings options, lowest brightness etc.. 17 hours is literally impossible. Which makes sense, hitting 17 hours means the whole laptop is drawing 3 watts, lol.

TheinsanegamerNI mean really, would it hurt them that much to support vulkan, or work with valve to make a metal equivalent for steam? Cmon!
Of course it would. Anything that is not made or controlled by Apple, hurts Apple. It's how they roll.

Neo_MorpheusThat right there is why I’m concerned about them becoming dominant on the cpu market.
They have done this before and ironically, became a trillion dollars company thanks to that approach.
They love to find ways to lock you to their hardware and yet people continue wanting them to expand even more.

After Apple moved to ARM, they stopped using AMD gpus.

I think they had an AMD accelerator for the AS based MacPro, but not entirely sure.
I'm EXTREMELY concerned with an already MASSIVE and monopolistic company spreading its tentacles into yet another industry.....this will NEVER be good for consumers in the long run, Nvidia is just trying to turn into standard oil.

So you prefer a de facto and de jure duopoly of x64 CPUs instead of a more open market that anyone willing to make that investment can enter? That's wild.

kapone32I was basing it on the Article I was reading. Apparently Nvidia need to do something to make it work with the Steam Deck. I assumed that it had something to do with Nvidia drivers. That is all. I have never even looked at Geforce Now.
Steam Deck uses AMD CPU/GPU, you either misread the article or the article is saying complete nonsense.

You mean the Z1 extreme? The Z2 is not out yet and that would be a flat out lie because we don't have any direct performance comparisons of the chips. The M4 is only marginally faster than the Z1 extreme (in synthetic suites). The Z2 extreme is more than likely going to surpass the M4 pro in every metric besides battery, but still be very good. Rumor is that the M4 extreme is canned. Apple has nothing to compete against the AI Max.

Against strix halo? Their Max model have way more GPU bandwidth at almost half the TDP, with the same amount of CUs, however apple has 128 ALUs per CU, similar to nvidia, whereas AMD does 64 ALUs per CU.
AMD is the one that doesn't really have comparable products at similar TDP points.

Apple has the ecosystem, constant updates, and are not putting their chips in junky plastic laptops with cheap displays.

I have a full AMD system now. CPU and GPU. I was so glad to get off the Intel platform due to stagnation. Same is happening to AMD now. Recent CPUs gave me no lift at 4k for many generations. 9070 is not any faster than 7900xt. The mess that we all know is AM5. Memory controller, slow boot times, etc. Mobos become good years later after many BIOS updates. I'm ready to move on.

Yes Apple is expensive and Nvidia is expensive. But they both give you some real gains each generation. AMD has its place as a cheaper alternative.

An apple GPU core is not 1 for 1 with a Radeon GPU core. A 40 core Radeon would significantly outperform a 40 core M chip.

If Nvidia releases ARM CPUs, you can also expect Nvidia to convince some game devlopers to build their games to run on ARM native, and some game developers to want to anyway because then the games will run more smoothly on Snapdragon X latops as well.

Sound_CardI see no evidence that Geforce Now is locked from AMD.
not locked, but kinda “featureless” no gsync on amd graphics cards…
(Tried GeForce Ultimate on my 7900xtx … neat but I have to buy the games…
All it made me think is if the 4080 was the same price as the 7900xtx at the time I bought the 7900xtx, I might have purchased it, if the 5080 is under 1400, then bingo! But I have no money…

1- Source on this claim?
2- How would it do so with less than half the memory bandwidth the M chip has?

Yes, I mean the Z2(not Z1) Extreme aka AMD RYZEN AI HX 370. It outperforms that APU in games that can be comparable and top of that uses much less wattage.

I highly disagree.
