This Week in Gaming (Week 6)

Welcome to February, also known as the shortest month of the year. This week's AAA release brings you some open-world medieval knight action. The rest of the week is pretty low-key, kicking off with a rather odd action-puzzle game which is followed by a new take on the vampire genre. Up next is some musical combat, some more knights, although this time we're back in Camelot and the week is finished off with a paranormal point-and-click adventure.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II / This week's AAA release / Tuesday 4 February
Diving back into the heart-pounding world of 15th Century Bohemia (Central Europe), Kingdom Come: Deliverance II picks up where its predecessor left off, thrusting players into the shoes of Henry, the steadfast son of a blacksmith, embroiled in a tumultuous tale of vengeance, betrayal, and self-discovery. In this gripping sequel, players will traverse a meticulously crafted medieval landscape, from the humble confines of a blacksmith's forge to the grandeur of royal courts, all while navigating the treacherous currents of a kingdom torn apart by civil war. Steam Link
Spirit Swap: Lofi Beats to Match-3 To / Monday 3 February
Cast spells, be queer, and crash the biggest concert of the year! Spirit Swap is an action-puzzle meets narrative game set in a lush world of witchy demons. Steam Link
Blood Bar Tycoon / Tuesday 4 February
Blood Bar Tycoon is a vampire bar management game. Build bars and blood factories, lure humans to harvest their blood, process it, and serve your customers: other vampires. Research quirky machines and deal with hunters! Expand through Crimson City to become a mighty Elder. Steam Link
Rift of the NecroDancer / Wednesday 5 February
The NecroDancer's back in an all-new rhythm game! Dragged into a strange new world, Cadence must engage in musical combat with monsters surging through the Rift! Face pulse-pounding Rhythm Rifts where every beat is a battle, all set to an original soundtrack by Danny Baranowsky & friends. Steam Link
Sworn / Thursday 6 February / Early Access
Sworn is a 1-4 player co-op action rogue-like. Explore and reclaim a fallen Camelot from the reign of a corrupted Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Play solo or unite with friends to stand off against the Knights of the Round Table. Combine the strengths of your characters in surprising ways and master abilities to become knights worthy of standing off against Arthur himself. Steam Link
Slender Threads / Friday 7 February
While wandering an unfamiliar town, Harvey Green follows a string of paranormal events to a grim realization: his recurring nightmare may foretell an inescapable fate. In this point-and-click thriller adventure, guide Harvey through the peculiar streets, shops, and surroundings of Villa Ventana as he seeks to prevent his visions from becoming reality. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is one of my most awaited games (right next to The Witcher 4). Although, I'm planning on a GPU upgrade soon, so I might as well wait with it to play in full detail later. :)

it has that same honestly about it as Baldurs Gate 3 from Larian has, just not completely taken over by corporate greed, still about developers (artists) wanting to do something because they think its cool.

Witcher 4.....well after Cyberpunk that company has lost a lot of its luster....

Yep. And the company is still passionate about making an accurate representation of the era the game is set in, instead of a politically correct one based on present-day values.

They chewed a bit more than they could swallow with Cyberpunk. They might have learned from it. We'll see.

Slender thread and Blood bar tycoon look interesting.

Edit: Not sure how many will remember Evil Genius that came nearly 20 years ago, Blood bar tycoon falls into similar category of games.

I love rhythm games, so will probably give Rift of the NecroDancer a chance. Didn't play the previous one as rougelikes don't go well with me, but this one looks more traditional.

Slender Threads is my other pick, always up for some good ol' point-and-clicking!

Blood Bar Tycoon has an interesting premise, but I'm not into vampires.

You need to separate historical games (like this) with fantasy. Fantasy gets to play with reality. Games like this, set within the bounds of reality will stick to what's known.

There's room for both.

Henry has yet again come to see us!
I really hope it's as good as the first one + improvements.

Same - after I played and beat the original 3 times, I really wished there was a device that would allow me to wipe my memory of it so I could re-experience it again lol.

One of my favorite games of all time.

Having heard certain stories regarding both studios I would suggest not to letting your expectations get too high.

Unfortunately this is as much as I can say about this topic on TPU.

After a few recent debacles, I've become wary of buying in advance, especially the hyped games. I now prefer to take my time and let the bug-fixes come in and the hype to settle down, before putting my money into the big-name stuff.

If something lives up to its hype, I'll gladly pay premium pricing. If it's better than average but not as much as it's been hyped, then I wait for a sale or for my gaming budget to go into a surplus (which rarely happens, heh!).

As it is, my library is so backed-up, I can probably play for a few years and I'd barely have to repeat any of the really good games :D

That's wise. I've actually had a lot more fun playing indie / lesser known titles recently. They run better on your PC, too.

Im usually the same, but the original was so good I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Off my list are the major other studios - bethesda, bioware, activision, ubisoft - not buying from them until I read 5 reviews from different sources.

I'm stoked about Rift of the NecroDancer, the demo was already excellent.

Not to mention the price. I don't think the majority of games out there are worth the original asking price. We're talking about entertainment, not tools for your trade. I'd much rather put my games on my wishlist, wait for a massive discount and replay some old classics in the meantime. I'm not one of those spoiled brats who wants everything yesterday. I do make an exception every now and then, just like I did with KCD2.
