BenQ to Become Qisda

In order to reconstruct its business and reduce 40% of its capital BenQ will change the company's official English name to Qisda. BenQ's Chinese name will also be changed from "Jia Da" to "Jias Da" (transliterated from Chinese). The new names (Chinese and English) will be effective on September 1, 2007. Qisda will mainly focus on LCD monitors, projectors, MFPs (multi-function peripherals) and handset ODM/OEM businesses. BenQ will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Qisda and will keep BenQ as its brand name. The own-brand product lines will remain the same as now, covering wireless communication products, mobile phones, LCD monitors, LCD TVs, Joybook notebooks, optical storage products, MFPs and scanners.

Kind of odd to call BenQ DVD burners Qisda. Oh well, I guess thats business.

as brand names go BenQ was hardly appealing to me but Qisda sounds so generic it could no doubt devalue the branded goods if they intend for a future total re brand.

Yeah... no good at all. Never was attracted to the name BenQ either, let alone Qisda. To be honest, I'm not even exactly sure how to say it.
