Microsoft Releases Windows Vista SP1 Beta to Select Testers

In contrast to the previous testing program, Microsoft recently released the most up-to-date code of its operating system to a small, hand-picked selection of people. SP1 is designed to enhance current features found in Vista, rather than add new ones. Among the most noticeable improvements to Vista in SP1:
  • Overall performance has increased markedly.
  • Several stability issues have been fixed
  • Network compatibility/speed has been tweaked
There is no word as to whether or not there will be a public version of this update. Anyone who has been chosen as a beta tester will most likely get the update through Windows Update.

2-3 weeks ago when I was troubleshooting my laptop with Vista, I downloaded SP1. It was a pre-beta stage, and although it didn't fix any of the problems I was having, I noticed significant improvements! Boot-time was faster, general usage was more efficient, and everything would have been smooth as silk, but pre-beta SP1 and beta TF2 did NOT like eachother too much. Steam updates helped, but there were still some hang-ups. O and if you haven't bought Orange Box yet... GO NOW!

advertise much

I don't recommend trying to play games on vista. In fact, I don't even recommend even surfing for porn on vista. :D
(can you imagine the distress when you finally get some good vids and it locks up)

If your hardware is supported in Vista, it's a very good OS. Gaming doesn't even suffer that much. There is absolutely no playability difference between Vista and XP for me. All my in game settings are the same for both, and everything remains as smooth as silk. I also don't have any problems with my porn in Vista. lol

Its just gonna take a year for Vista to get all the bugs worked out. Then, it will be faster for games and what not.
