Halo 3 Not so Successful in UK

In America, Halo 3 was met with great anticipation, and stores hosting midnight launch events soon found themselves without Halo 3 copies to sell. While Halo 3 did land Microsoft $170 million USD to very first day of launch, most of that money only came from America. In the UK, there were no such lines or hordes of excited gamers. For the first part, in fear of crowds rioting for Halo 3, the UK forbade stores to sell Halo 3 until 8AM local time. And when the stores could sell Halo 3, there wasn't much to see. While Microsoft was popping champagne bottles in celebration of the anticipated "movie-like" sales, the largest line waiting for Halo 3 in the UK topped out at around "a hand-full" of people.

with a £40-50 ($80-100) for the regular edition most people will be buying it online to save £10 but being honest i do fell the halo series has been way over hyped, GoldenEye on the N64 still to this day has been my favourite console FPS.

UK != Europe anyway. They have this old women on their monies~

Here, the local shops had seperate selling areas for Halo 3 outside the regular shop. Because Halo 3 sales would have paralyzed the shopping of others ;)

Most people I saw bought the Legendary tho, 100€

They got their just desserts! =D But yeah, Halo 3 only strikes me for the beautiful graphics, but the principle gameplay compared to other Halo's are in my opinion the same. I think I'll wait till the prices drop. =D

Who the hell buys games on the high street anymore? Much cheaper online and you get it on the morning of release without leaving your house.

my gamestation had a midnight launch and it was the only store in my town that did. HMV, Virgin and game didn't bother, but the masses did turn out and i didn't get my copy till after 1am and there was a ton of others behind me!!!

P.S. if you pre-order through play.com you got it a day early

Lol, do something else with your time rather than going to a shop and buying a video game. I live in the middle of london and itd take me 20 mins to get to the nearest gamestation or GAME store. Thats 40 mins wasted buying a game.

I value my time at ~£10 an hour. Thats what i use whe i decide to do anything. If it takes an hour, do i earn £10 or get £10 worth of enjoyment.

you have a point, partial to people like yourself, i physically cannot sit on my backside all day doing nout, buying off the internet is all good and lazy but i would rather spend an extra £15 going to edinburgh getting the game or whatever object it may be and bringing it back, then i know that i have got it and that it aint going to get damaged in the post by some retarder postman, ken what royal mail are like!!

I'm unsurprised. In the last ten years I've seen games shops in the UK slide completely from the radar. The last time I stepped foot in one was three months ago, and only to see if I'd missed any releases whilst in France (I was in town buying some clothes...). It's cheaper, faster and easier online - soon it'll be download-only (2015??). Game stores are going to die.

its true the high street gaming store is soon to die, i used to buy my pc components from a shop called " Computer World" only one i could find was in the St James centre in edinburgh, well thats now vanished along with the Gamestation that used to be alongside, all this happened within a month, im not too mindful on downloading games either, just dont like downloading things ive just payed for

Too many expectations for a series that began falling apart on the 2nd installment.

It's the same as Halo 2, except better graphics.

This is a how over hyping ensures that it will never meet the expectations of the fans of the series, but the sales will be good.

implies to over half of all games that have a sequel. take for instance, final fantasy X = awesome. FFX part 2 = no no no

Too be fair i dont think that the game appearing on torrents a week before its release helped at all either.

it wouldnt have, but that wouldnt have put off the hardcore gamer, being there more than ever. its more down to the fact that the prices for these games are unreal. many people have come to realise you can get much more, like a zen micro for the same price as halo3 LE. im in no rush at all to get it

Halo is cool but its not the end all be all of FPS. I would expect Crysis to sell more than this game did.

Granted, Ive not played Halo at all, just seen video, but..

I'm not gonna play Crysis, but then again I avoid 99,9% of all games. But I hope for everyone else that it's not gonna be 90% eyecandy like Gears of War :)

I have the 1st Halo. Started it a couple of times. Don't know if I will ever re-start it and finish it. Over hyped, maybe?

GoldenEye on the N64, I think it is already in the history books as the best console game ever. :respect:
