AMD to Produce Hundreds of Thousands of Quad Core Processors to Meet Demand

AMD recently admitted that it was not quite prepared when they launched quad-core processors earlier this year. Even after the delays, there simply were not enough AMD quad core offerings to go around. And so, to make up for that, they've announced that they're going to make a lot more quad core processors this quarter. The official statement by AMD:
While our initial production ramp of quad-core Opterons has been slower than anticipated, we expect quad-core Opteron will be widely available by the middle of this quarter; and, we expect to ship hundreds of thousands of quad-core processors this quarter into the server and desktop segments.

Well, I'm sure everyone knows that Intel will always have an advantage over AMD. They just have too much money and resources to fall behind. I'm surprised that AMD is still hanging in there, says a lot about them. Hopefully they'll meet the demand for our sake.

Im surprised by this news. I wasnt sure their Quad FXs (yeah, not really quad core) and Opterons were in such demand. IT was never reported on this site if they were..

quad fxs was a waste om time i think, its just a show off, money is where the Phenom X4 AM2+ is, i have heard they will release Phenom FX's for AM2+ to ^^

there isnt many quadcores out atm, only Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 for us humans with not so high monkey count

My Next System:
AMD Phenom X4 9600 AM2+
AMD RX780 AM2+ Motherboard
OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Vista Performance Gold 4GB Dual Channel (all ready have)
WDC Raptor 74GB 16MB Cache (might get another one in RAID0)

cant wait for Phenom X4 :rockout:

Been bit out of the loop, but does anybody have an idea when AMD moves into DDR3 ? Thinking of skipping the whole DDR2 age, Intel is allready has DDR3 support if I understood correctly.

But there will also be Yorkfield Quads at 45nm available on the shelves in just a few weeks that allegedly are capable of 4.6Gig on air! and they start at a price around the current Q6600 range.

No they wont, if they oversaturate the market it will just drop the price. They will only make as many available as needed to keep sales going and keep prices at an optimum.
