Intel Delays Three 45nm Quad-core CPUs Intentionally

Intel has recently adjusted its product strategy and will postpone three 45nm quad-core CPUs that were originally scheduled to launch in January next year. Intel has already notified its partners that it will push back the launch of the three CPUs to February or March next year, depending on AMD's schedule for triple-core and the upcoming Phenom CPUs. Launching the CPUs now will not benefit Intel much in its battle with AMD, while they could cause damage to Intel's 65nm quad-core CPUs, therefore the company has decided it is in no rush to release new products until AMD is able to present more of a threat. The three CPUs that Intel plans to delay are the Core 2 Quad Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550.

Yea, that's a pretty bad-ass slap in the face by Intel. Ouch. But darnit, that hurts us too! Oh well.

or a likely excuse for bad yields (which means they won't make as much money by selling them in Jan)...

Intels now doing what we feared they would do. Now that there is little competition from AMD Intel is seeing fit to wait it out for them to catch up. lol maybe this will be good for AMD and Intel will actually let them catch up for a change lol.

But in reality this only hurts us the consumer. Since we will be seeing less innovation from Intel while AMD is playing catchup with them.:shadedshu:shadedshu

Ahhhh this is the worst news ever! I planned my build solely around these new quads, I bought everything I need... now this. Should i just swap my P4 and bottleneck everything i own until they come out or just buy a cheap c2d, that wull suffice until i can get my hands on one of these?

Goes onto show Intel isn't customer-friendly but only means business. I was waiting so badly for the Wolfdale 3.00 GHz, 6M cache that sells under $200.

They arent delaying the Wolfdales c2d, only the Yorkfield quads. You should still be able to acquire your Wolfdale?

So true... if it wasnt for k8, we would still be using single core netbursts at 4GHz haha...

Bullseye, phanbuey!!!!

Just as, if it wasn't for Firefox, we would be using an IE7 that looks verbatim IE6 with just a few pretty icons and buttons thrown around.

Well if you were building it for the Penryn then you can still get one, unless of course you mean the Yorkfield Quads.....as opposed to the penryn or wolfdale duelies????:p

TBH this makes sense although I appreciate not good news in making the customers wait, Intel know that releasing 45nm quads will harm sales of exisitng 65nm quads so why bother if there is no competition, TBH, they could probably stay with the same chip line up for the next 6 months and we would still be having the same discussion!

And yes, we do all perceive (well I do) that Intel is just talking Business and the perception is that AMD have the greater consumer Bias.....but look where it's getting them! It's nice to please the consumer, but not worth risking going bust over and the easiest way to please me and most other consumers is to give me very fast well priced CPU's that are not too power hungry and produce minimal heat!

Im no fan of intel, just their latest processors rock, but this was imo, pretty underhand thing to do to AMD. AMD are really struggling, and tricore etc could have gotten them some lovin, but this is like stamping on thieir ribs when they are already reeling on the floor :(

Edit: @ Tatty, yeah i meant the yorkie, hence the Q9450 part of my response :p

I want me some killer 3dmark scores as at the moment im mainly benching my machine with a little gaming mixed in, plus, this e2140 has a poor fsb wall, so really wanted to liberate my maximus formula and get some 500+ fsb action going on.. best i can manage here with this chip is 362fsb on an 8x multi

Naaaa, actually AMD suck for not offering them enuff competition, if they had of some months ago we would have Yorkfield 45nm's already.

AMD dont suck.. but what you say is unfortunatly very true, competition creates great leaps in technology and moves the game on so to speak. if amds phenom had been infact phenominal, then penryns would have still been launched early
