Time Warner Considering Selling AOL for Cash

America Online, love it or hate it, has an incredible influence on the internet. While it was once a giant that everyone had to go through to get on the internet, it would seem as though times have changed. Time Warner, known for cable television/internet and for owning America Online, recently ran into some trouble. They also are noticing that AOL is not doing too well themselves. And so, what was once the internet industry leader is now going to be sold off to the highest bidder. At this point, AOL should be split into two departments. One department will run whatever AOL does involving sheer internet access. The other department, called the AOL Web Portal, includes a search engine and a lot of media.

Funny, considering AOL bought out Time Warner for 164 billion in 2000.

About time...hahaha. If you ever had AOL, you would know how long it took to cancel your service when you were on the phone with "tech support" = (you can't cancel).

Well, they made profit to buy a company that will actually last them, and now they are going to sell AOL because 56k is going nowhere fast. Probably a good business move by them overall.

hey now; AOL suxors now, but that company is very much responsible for the upshoot of the internet like it is. Prodigy was corrupt (gettin into peoples stuff), Juno was weaksauce... early to mid 90s, AOL was the SHIZNIT. Produced the most mainstream IM service (altho arguably ICQ ruled all back in the day, but AIM was just easier and more mainstreamed)...
Anyways, I definitely love to see AOL done because of their selling/marketing techniques, but you gotta give them props for how they helped the internet grow. Most people didn't even know what the internet was until they got AOL.

got the net in 95 and didn't have AOL, we had some local 56k company, worked great though for us.

and ill match yalls, 20 bucks and toss in a 20, we now have 40 to buy them.

but if i pay 50% of the cost i demand to get to throw the match on there building :D

Only reason I had AOL, was at the time, it was my only ISP and it allowed me to play Terris, a great online game (legendsofterris.com)
