ATI CrossFire is capped at 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz

Indeed the subject heading is true.

For the people that don't know how CrossFire is setup, it is simple: There is a Master edition card and an ordinary Radeon card, an external dongle will connect the two cards together and be joined to one plug which goes into the monitor. To coordinate the two cards to communicate through the dongle, the Master edition card uses the SiL (Silicon Image) 1161 chip which receives the output passed over the dongle from the Slave to the Master.

Now read the specs for the SiL 1161 and you'll see that the maximum negotiable resolution and refresh rate is 1600x1200 @ 60Hz due to it being a single link TMDS.

UPDATED: I just received some news that 1920x1200 is capable but at a rate of 52 Hz. Thanks DarkSaber for the heads up!

LCD's dont have refresh rates, and whoever could afford crossfire shure as hell wouldnt use a CRT.

Plus who says they wont modify the chip ;)
