AMD is taking the whole concept of a next-generation product flying out of NVIDIA's factory doors with an unnerving level of calm. The main points of a press conference...

- The 9600GT, in benchmarks scores roughly between an HD3850 and an HD3870. The HD3850 can be had for $169USD, and the HD3870 can be had for $189USD. Suggested MSRP for the 9600GT: $169-189USD.
- The current offerings from AMD are more feature rich than the 9600GT. Such features are DirectX 10.1, 55nm manufacturing, and built-in HDCP encoding.
- AMD's offerings currently beat the 9600GT in terms of heat, power consumption and noise.

hey amd, you forgot to tell us about CrossFireX that nvidia doesnt have.. nvidia has only up to three gpus .. can't be good
It's nVidia - their new hardware will seel even if they don't advertise or publicize it.
Sure, ATI is starting to solidify itself and take a stand again, but they're still far away from their old level of glory.
My buddy has an 8800GT in his PC and when he kicks up the fan to be under 70C when fully loaded, the fan (he has the smaller stock fan) sounds so loud we can't concentrate on whatever game we're playing. My HD 3850 overclocked happily keeps around 70C loaded with stock fan at 55% and I can't even hear it over my other fans.
I don't care about noise. I can wear headphones.
I don't care about heat, unless your product dies because of it. (Besides, it's cold here and my 2 X1950xtx's heat up my computer room nicely).
I don't care about the cost of power consumption as long as the darn things don't overload my home curcuits.
I want to run all my games at 2560x1600 with at least 60fps with all the eye candy turned on.
Make it happen.
Thank you.
Dont be trouncing my ATI, they kick the 9600 GT!
3870 & 3850 has built in Audio+HDCP via PCI Express, and HDMI, nvidia geforce 9600 does NOT
I hate that! Let the friggin' product speak for itself!
I'm already sick of biased reviews all across the internet, I don't need press conferences, slide-shows and the likes to convince me.
feel free to look at my power consumption and fan noise numbers of g92 reviews or the g94 review later today.
what good does it do if the card runs cool but is noisier? as long as the temperatures are far from "hot" they are fine and in my opinion its better to have a quieter card that is slightly warmer
thats my main complaint, i dont got a gpu cooler to stick on it and cant afford one, my vf700 has 2 broken/striped studs, so its useless for the 8800gt, basickly im stuck with NOISY AS HELL stock spining up under heavy load.....
mine wasnt loud.. maybe its because i tested a zotac card and they adjusted the fan
I calculated the avarage of all 9600GT benchmarks and the avarage of all 3870 benchmarks, there is less then 1% performance difference. ( I excluded 3DMark, that's not a game! )
The 9600GT is a very fast mid-range card. The cooling on the cards sucks though.
I say that if you can find a 9600GT OC ( with better cooling ) for the 3870 price, then you should get a 9600GT.
If you have to decide between 3870 and 9600GT default, the 3870 is the better choise.
AMD sas that they don't wurry about sales but they know just as much as you all do that the 9600GT WILL outsell the 3870 just because it's Nvidia an just because it has the next-generation number.
