Alienware Adds CrossFireX Option to the ALX Desktop System

As a result of the now officially driver lined CrossFireX support, Alienware has updated their elite ALX desktop computer to include pair of Radeon HD 3870 X2 cards, delivering 2GB of graphics memory to the already hi-end gaming station. Claimed to be "the first-ever quad GPU gaming solution supporting DirectX 10.1," the Area-51 ALX also utilizes the power of a 3GHz Core 2 Extreme quad-core processor overclocked to 4GHz, 2GB of low-latency RAM, two 10,000 rpm 150GB WD drives and built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi. Adding the dual Radeon HD 3870 X2 CrossFireX option bumps the price by $500 up to $5,649. The company expects to ship the Alienware ALX CrossFireX systems by early April. One of my housemates was hell keen to get an alienware computer.... That was until I showed him how much he would save if he just bought all the same stuff from a computer shop and built it. Why does it only have 2ghz of ram? :/

Newegg is for the rest of us. Just know how to build/OC/maintain/RMA an item, and you'll end up saving big time. For 5.5k imagine what an epic machine one could build.....or pay for the ignorance/lethargy and buy from Voodoo/HP/Alienware. The AlienSpawn restore system looks good though :)

You dont really need more than 2GB of RAM for everyday games, especially when you already got 2GB of VRAM. That being said, this is meant to be top of the line computer, and with RAM as cheap as it is nowadays, I don't see why they didn't put something like 4GB.

i thought it was the exact opposite...: the more Vram you have, the more actual ram u need for games. I could be wrong here, i just remember reading that somewhere.

Alienware mistake

I made the Alienware mistake and overpaid for a halfway decent gaming laptop. :slap:
I'll never buy a desktop from them, just build a matching computer for a third of the price!

Alienware is waaaaaayyyyy too expensive. There are other custom builders out there that can put together a system for much less. Thats an option for those who can't build themselves.
