Comcast Plans 100Mbit Internet Speed for Customers
Comcast Corporation says it is currently on track to offer speeds of over 100Mbps to 20 percent of its customers by the end of 2008. By the end of 2010, they hope to expand the product to most markets in the United States. Comcast Senior Vice President of Investor Relations, Marla Dooner, calls the speed 'very competitive' with Verizon FiOS.
Comast is the United State's second largest ISP and the largest cable television provider. Among cable operators, Comcast has been the most aggressive in deploying a wideband technology known as Docsis 3.0 in response to user demand for high definition video.

but if they want to compete with verizon then they wouldnt do that.
its not the fact that you would use it, but rather that you have it.
but wait i guess if i did have this service i would need to upgrade to some new routers.
fair usage your ass
no im kidding.
i hear that some countries get this kinda speed for normal broadband.
However, Verizon is no better than Comcast in terms of customer service. They both have good and bad employees and it really comes down to who comes to your house. For example, since FIOS can be installed in up to 7 rooms, I had the whole local team (3 vans and 8 employees) doing the job for $350.
Comcast is the same. They usually have good quality service.
It all comes down to competition folks. If anything, 100mbit Comcast will help push up FIOS speeds as well.
And it is true that other nations like Japan, have 30mb+ broadband for their people for as little as we pay for 768K DSL... it is because it is not profitable.
I still wished that I would get better download speeds when downloading private composed music in raw music files... I hate caps; but it sure is profitable for Comcast though.

P.S.
Bittorrent is not illegal, and bandwith caps suck ass.

Corporations should be allowed to make profits. It's only when a corporation becomes malicious and sabotages its competitors that such a corporation should be punished. If you don't like Comcast, just go with Verizon or another company. Before long, Comcast will start to lose business if they are not competitive.
Without customers there would be no share holders because there would be no demand.
Btw, Japan has such quick speeds because Japan is an island. You can't expect to get 30+ mbps speeds in the USA for the prices in Japan because the usa is 26 times larger than Japan. It costs that much more to maintain and develop the infrastructure.
I totally agree, that the corporations that cause harm to the public should be punished; the jailhouse and repo should do good. :) And my dad owns his own business, so I am not anti-profit.
With the way the market is working nowadays, I think you can agree that "demand" is easy to tickle awake. Just look at the useless junk advertised on TV and how well that sparks "demand."
And I do not fully agree with the island theory, when it is fact that Terayon in the past was barred from using its network technologies that could have brought broadband to most homes easily... mind you this was near the early 90's or earlier. Nortel in Canada layed km's of fibre-optic lines throughout Calgary, but were they ever used? Nope. The tech is here, but if I were running these ISP providers, I would charge 40+ for mediocre internet too, if I could get away with it... and they are getting away with it just fine. :)
I know were all hoping for better service,

Heh, I even got cocky and had 2 of the modems sitting right on the cable box when they had to come to upgrade the thing. The guy didn't say a damn thing. I even asked him about having multiple modems & he said that Comcast don't pay him enough to say anything about it but he did say he saw that kind of stuff all the time :p In my part of town CC doesn't care what you do as long as they get their money once a month - & it only $45 :shadedshu
If they want to start selling some bent, overpriced 100mb BS, go right ahead. I'll keep what I got. The upload will still be as watered down as ever
But I do love their BOEPC commercials
Please don't blame me for taking avantage of a huge company :p
