Fresh Product Images of the R700 Emerge

With the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2, codenamed R700, inching towards an August launch, ChipHell released fresh pictures of the R700, these are product images of the card in the form in which it will be sold, all built to order.

Visually, the R700 can be regarded as a black colored R680 (HD 3870 X2). While early shots of the cooler showed it to have a red colored leaf-blower, these shots show a black one. The appearance can be described as: Black PCB, black see-thru cooler cover, black leaf-blower, black heatspreader over the rear-side of the PCB.

I hear that alot. But once you get it inside, its really not to bad.

How much longer is it than an ATX motherboard?

That metal plate BEHIND the pci express connector will murder my sata ports and my chipset cooler as well :nutkick:

I don't think amd would be stupid enough to include that plate in the retail version.

That's what she said.. The card looks nice, nothing more then sweetness. But, I just can't wait for it to be shown as benching and so forth. Then with people on here having one to try also.. That's what will seal the deal for me.

I dont either, but dayum I want to have it. I may forgo the 4870 and wait for these to pop out and grab one. That way, I got a Xfire solution raring to go.

looks more like a test stack than a case, cases were designed to protect the components from dust, physical damage etc.

Well last week I was thinking of getting another 3870 to go Xfire. Then I realized its better value for money to get a 4870 and sell on my 3870. then i see this. and its a black PCb and cooler!!! :D
if i can get this for the rumoured price of $500 (probably about £300 in UK) i just might get it.

Cus the X2's use less power than two cards in Xfire right? (like the 3870x2 did)

only thing i'm worried about is that "plate" or something, cus it would mean it wouldnt fit cus of sata ports, SB heatpipe. Unless its optional??? Surely they wouldnt design something that wouldnt actually fit on a lot of peoples mobos??

i would love to have an all black system. ATM mobo is black, case is black, new ram and cpu cooler im looking at are black, then if i can get a black gfx card that is a 4870x2! :D

My case should fit it(Cooler Master RC 690) I know it can fit a 8800 GTX so it should fit this to.

It's not a metal plate, it's a piece of PCB. It'll be removed on functional cards, it's just there to help the card being held in place in the machines that add the components onto the PCB.

Prettiest ATI card I have seen in years. I get so tired of building my black rigs and having my Red ATI PCB's. I was thinking of upgrading to a 4870 and a Q9450 recently I may just wait a bit longer.

Same I was thinking. I was gonna have a nice black PC even a black cooler, then a bright red gfx card, lol! i have to admit the colour is one of the factors making me wait for the 4870x2. aw well as the potential performance, lol!

Yeah, but the dust is a hell of a lot easier to clean without a case. As far as physical damage, just use common sense. (And don't let DaMulta anywhere near it. lol) I don't use a case either.
